Michael Waltrip to kick-start 2010 season with Dubai sports-car race

Full story: www.scenedaily.com

Michael Waltrip is going global. While his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series effort on the track will be scaled back in 2010, the owner/driver will be extending his reach outside the stock-car world when he competes in this week's Dubai 24-Hour sports-car race.

This is a pretty low grade race, kind of like jr high school football. They don't charge the few fans that will show up any attendance. If I read the information correctly there are 22 or so entries (which means if his "team" finishes 22 thats a better finish than more than 2/3 his NASCAR Sprint Cup points race finishes last year) divided up into 12 or so classes. My understanding is that team merkin is entered in the brokeback mountain class. They may be the only car in this class and when the creative writer at POS.com gets ahold of it you can be sure you will read all about how lurch lead the field during his entire shift.

POS is the WORST DRIVER IN NA$CRAP, PERIOD! His sponsors won't even let him behind the wheel for the two road course races every year, LMAO! This clown is like a mobile chicane on a road course.

Good luck peddliing some more worthless merchandise to idiots that don't know any better during the race, ya huckster!

Its a pretty insignificant race in the world of motor sport but it is a crying shame that this guy is allowed a means by which to pass himself off as NASCAR's amabasador to anywhere.

I was scared when I read it was a Ferrari he was driving. I still see Boris in that sportscar (sorry, forgot what kind) when he caught on fire and couldn't get out. That scares me.

However, wouldn't it be a huge hoot if he did ace this one??? What a confidence-booster! I am sitting on egg shells thinking about the 500. I keep having this strange vision that somebody really weird, like McMurray, will win it. You know, an "accidental" win? Sorry, Mac fans...Even weirder, yep, Truex. If his car is that good, then the first question I wil have is why isn't Mike's better? Hmmm????

I don't like DW, never will. However, was the guy really THAT hot as a driver? I have done my homework and this guy, who never shuts up has a sh((*load of wins...why? He's a dork.

I think you are confusing Michael with DW. And yes DW could drive in his day. Not very well liked but he could drive. I guess you could say he was the Kyle Bush of his day.

Thanks, Joe, that is a great way to look at it. DW was before my time getting into Nascar. He and Michael appear to have completely different styles of driving and a bit of a difference in personalities. I do like Michael...a lot...I am crazy about David Reutimann. David has said numerous times he totally admires and respects DW. I think that whenever I see and listen to DW in the old videos, he is a bit high-strung and well, like you said, the Kyle Bush of his day. In the Dale Senior "3" movie, he was mean as hell to Dale. Jealousy, maybe? As for Kyle, he uses the "F" word continuously over the radio (scanner) with his spotter, Jeff. I think those 2 guys are a lot alike in many ways. I dig Kyle.

Have a good one!

I will remember that, thank you. I loved it when every weekend I would "talk" to Kyle on TV and say, "You little sh*t, are you gonna win ANOTHER one?" with a big smile on my face!

Whether you like him or not if you like the sport you have to respect the accomplishment, the guy is a Champion, one of the most successful drivers of his era, won races alot of races driving against some of the sports most legendary legitimate competitors, and he helped define the sport.

His half brother is just a parasite.

'Tis true. Thank you. Oh, I saw a terrific photo of Dale Senior and guess who he is hugging? A very young David Reutimann. It was funny seeing David in the white Goodwrench uniform. But, I did put 2 + 2 together and I understand why.

I would rather have MW driving even at the rear of the field, then have him talking on TV.
