Go to this address and read what Ed Hinton wrote about Mark and Dale Sr. You'll see that Mark had some drinking problems early in his career but cleaned it up and has been a flag bearer and example setter for the sport ever since. You'll also see the ugly side of Dale Sr. that most fans never saw and understand why Dale Jr. is totally opposite to his father.

You can log into NASCAR.com and select drivers on the task bar right under where it says NASCAR.com . A Drop down will open and you can select what series you're looking for. Then you can select "stats" on the driver you're interested in, then select "career" and it will bring up his starts by year. If its a retired driver, try this site:http://www.racing-referen ce.info/driver.htm

Compared to Michael Waltrip, who has roughly the same amount of starts, Martin's numbers are spectacularly impressive.

Those 1000 starts comprise Cup, Nationwide and Truck series. If you combine his wins in all 3 series, he has 94 wins. I'd say that constitutes a lot of winning over those 1000 starts. Plus all the top 10s and 5s he's accumulated.

no driver ever runs 200 for 4 hours, much less 5. they reach 200 into the turns in atlanta and nowhere else, right?

they have 10 cautions per race to relax - that's if they even finish it without incident.

the races are more like 3 to 4 hours aren't they?

and no, the drivers don't endure difficult g-force (come on, they are like 5 foot 2, soft and weak in most cases, 150 maybe - my cat could endure the g-forces as good as they can) or extreme heat (blowers in the helmets).

by the way the 'work' maybe 15 hours a week. shooting commercials doesn't count, nor do autograph sessions.

just because he doesn't ball his eyes out (kb), scream at his crew (ts) or blame his teammate for beating him (jg) doesn't mean he's comfortable with it.

the fat gopher and the big eared freek are supposedly 'passionate' and portrayed as 'wanting to win' more than the other 41 drivers. being 'passionate' belongs in the bedroom. all they do is pout and complain - that doesns't mean they want to win more - that means they hve less control over their emotions.

its not that they want to win more than others, its that they are psychologically stunted.

sorry i was filling in your thoughts for you a bit.

He will use it at times on the radio..He is the only driver I listen to every week. I was at Darlington when he won earlier this year, and he had some very choice words for Joey Logano on the radio.

I have never heard a "potty mouth" comment come out of him in a public forum.

To the first poster - Drivers should be allowed to say whatever they want on the radio. If you don't want to hear what they think while strapped into a 3200lb brick at 200mph, you can choose not to listen in.

He is one of the best if not the best of all time if he drove dirty like every body else he would have 7 chamionships too and he does have the most wins this season and two of them came at tracks where he dominated the race (Pheonix and Chicago) not to mention lead the most laps at Bristol one of the most physical demanding tracks that they go to he has 5 poles also all this in the top series and did I happen to mention he is 50
