I think the IRL weight rule is the greatest thing to happen fo women in sports in many years. If we are accepting that differences in body size and stature make a difference in sports, and should be accounted for, this will lead to changes in other sports. Imagine instead of a pitcher's mound, a pitcher's lane - where shorter pitchers (often women) will be forced by rule to stand loser and taller pitchers to stand furthre back. And then there are the multiple baskets of future basketball - where taller players must shoot into higher baskets and shorter players into lower baskets. Wow - this is never ending. Now - when we run a local 5K - we will really have to run 4.5 - 5.5 K = depending on the length of the competitor's legs! If the "playing field is to be evened out in one sport - more are sure to follow!!!!

What about the weight load in Nascar. We have some thin and some over fed...
Will the new rule come to nascar?????? If not then Danica can always switch...

Every other motorsports series already has a minimum weight rule that includes the driver, Nascar included. The IRL was the only one that didn't and it was very unproffessional of them not to have it. Now they are in line with all the other series.

I enjoy the sarcasm, but weight requirements for motorsports makes a bit more sense (though stupid). Should other bike racers be given a handicap since I can leg press more than they can, effectively giving me an advantage up hills and in sprints? There's a fine line between fairness and overcomplication. Besides, most of the regulatory board members that make up these rules are stupid anyway. They have no clue how it impacts the sport and how it affects the participating teams.

All the ultra-strict rules in motorsports suck - NASCAR is so friggin' boring now, a lot of it due to the brutally strict rules. If you really want to evenly judge driver skill, give them identically prepped cars like the celebrity exhibition races held prior to big city gp races. I have more fun going to local auto-x events and watching the SM2 guys run.
