I'm looking to take my wife to a race this year. It will be her first one. What do you guys think of Michigan? I've been there but I want everyone's opinion of the best place to go for your first race. I enjoyed Michigan but not as much as Charlotte. Do any of you have any other better ideas or is Michigan a good place to take her for her first race?

You will love Charlotte!!!! I wish I had enough vacation time at work to go to Charlotte. I just started a new job around Thanksgiving and it's tough enough to get the time that I have now for the race in Michigan! The people in Charlotte are all together different than what your probably used to. They all have that Southern hospitality. One guy cooked me a steak and gave me a six pack of beers while I waited for traffic to clear out at my first race. I couldn't believe it. I tried to pay him and he wanted to hit me for offering to pay him!

My first race was at gateway which is Nationwide series but it was great. I also was able to attend
Michigan, it's a lot like gateway, set up. You can see everything happening on the track no matter where it happens. I think that's what's important to first timers.

I've been to Talladega, Atlanta, Charlotte, North Wilkesboro, Rockingham, Martinsville, Bristol, Michigan, Watkins Glen, Indianapolis, and Richmond. The *best* place for a first races is, undoubtedly,....... BRISTOL!!!

Yes -- from the speedway itself. But if you go to the track on race day, you can always get tickets from people who have "extras". Drawback -- sometimes it's hard to get more than a "single" so the two of you might not be together.
Q. I was born and raised in Grove City. Are you from there also?

No, I wasn't born and raised here. I was born in New Castle and moved here because I work at the mine in Boyers for OPM. My wife does also.

If you could get tickets to the Bristol night race in August, would you go?

I'm trying to figure out how to make contact with you since Topix doesn't allow posting of phone numbers or emails. I will be staying at the Elephant and Castle (motel part) on June 20 and 21.
Maybe you could call there at that time and leave a message for "Eagle"?-- give your phone number?

I literally live like 5 miles from the Elephant and Castle. I'm going to talk to my wife and see what she thinks about the tickets. I'll let you know and we can make plans from there. How does that sound? THANKS!!!

So Eagle, what are you doing when you come to Grove City in June? Do you still have family there?

I'm there for my 50th GCHS class reunion!(Hence the handle of "Eagle" -- should've used "58Eagle"!) Parents are deceased and sibling lives near Pittsburgh. Yep, I have 2 extra tickets. Daughter, son-in-law, their older son, and I will be attending.("Grandma" will be babysitting the younger boy.) Born and raised on Woodland Ave.

oh I see!! that's awesome! My wife and I just purchased our first house on Superior Street. We have a 1 year old that is a future Eagle. It's a nice little town to live in. What made you move? So far, my wife likes the idea of Bristol. We are going to talk a little more about it tonite. I want to go for sure but we have got to look at schedules and etc. to be sure that we can go. How much are you asking for the tickets by the way?

That's great about getting your first house. That's one *positive* aspect of the "housing crisis" -- makes it more affordable to *buy*!

What made me move was that I could get a job in my chosen field down here. Been here for 42 years!

I'm asking face value. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I think it's around $105 each.(Spring race is $93, but that isn't as "hot" a ticket, though both races sell out.) Seats are in row 10 (which, because of the high banking, is about as high as row 35 on the front stretch), between turns 1& 2 with a clear view of the entire track. You don't have to move your head -- just move your eyes!

You could probably drive down from GC in one long day -- probably around 440-450 miles. But you wouldn't want to turn around and drive back after the race. Better to stay overnight as close to the track as possible, then drive back on Sunday.

Eagle,

I talked it over with my wife and she wants to go but the only trouble is getting the time off approved by her boss. There are too many people off that week for my wife to have it off. Kinda sucks when you don't have a lot of seniority at your company.

I apologize for any inconvenience but unfortunately, I won't be able to go!!!!!!!!!!
