<quoted text>No no one in Indy I know of cares about F-1! I like it but no I wasn't thrilled to see him in fact I didn't even go. The tire fiasco was it for me. So the dude can drive the car, but he had the best everything so we may never know who in that car could do the same. Maybe even Juan! He was good I can say that but he never did anything for me.
You forget to mention MS helped create the "best everything", him, Ross Brawn Rory Byrne, Jean Todt and a pretty decent team, and that is the difference. He was not simply given the car, he helped create the car. LGR, you need to read up about it, a 2 X WC who had it all going for him in 1995, yet he leaves his team to join a team, that while it might have the name, performing so badly they had won just 3 races the previous 5 years. He promises at least 3 wins in his first year, and gets them, against far superior race cars, he challenges for the championship the first to seasons, in a car previous drivers referred to as a pig of a car. He never packs it in, spending time day after day till late into the night with the engineers, and mechaincs trying to work out ways to get that little bit extra out of the car. Finally in 1999 although he does not win the WC, Ferrari win their first constructors in 16 years, and the next season begins a domination for 5 years never seen before in F1 racing. And when its all over everyone says it was easy anyone could have done it if they had the best car. Maybe, difference is MS was instrumental in creating that car. While Juan was stuffing himself with burgers and eventually getting thrown out the Macca team, MS was spending hours and hours dedicated to his trade, that's why guys like Montoya and Villeneuve will never be in the same class, we all know Villeneuve was in the far superior Williams in 97 when he won the WC (now that was a case of being "given everything")and well Montoya, he was just another driver in F1, won a few races and that was that.

He's the best end of story and that's my story and I'm sticking ot it, lol! As for JV next year buddy, next year! Happy Turkey day!

Yes !!... that's it !!... no comparison with anybody ... just that. JPM was another driver, won some races, disrespected MS a couple of times .. but he was no crap !... and no matter how fat you are or how ugly you are as long as you fit in the car and perform that's what counts... and JPM gave us some show while he was there ... sadly he didn't have any backup and the FIA didn't allow any drug "cartel" to sponsor a driver ...

Don't worry ... it's not you ... Bob just doesn't like JPM and JV.

... and I can tell you that while JPM was in F1 the coverage we have in latin america was huge !!... but he had the bad luck of going to McLaren and that was it ... he understood what was F1 about for him (playing second to Kimi, business, etc)... and he didn't like it!!!

I followed JPM during his F1 years ... and it was a delight and a blow of fresh air !!

Now, every day more people watch NASCAR because of him ... even if Bob doesn't acknowledge his talent !!

I loved watching him in Cart, he dominated that year, it was awesome and the left us. I'm so glad he's working with Ganassi again and I hope they can get their equipment up to par.
I like JV, JPM, Franchitti, Speed, Carpentier and all the others coming from open wheel to Nascar. I never watched it until JPM came to it, now I like it but it's alot different then open wheel. I got people coming to me now saying they were wrong about Juan but I went through hell to begin with. Because he's a foreigner which is b/s to me!

Ah Luis, you have it all wrong. I have never doubted his talent, not JV's, just the rest of what they are. As for the latin American coverage being huge, it was no wonder...with his ass getting fatter by the day. nascar suits JPM, we all know that, he can eat burgers all day, the cockpit is big enough for an elephant. By the way LGR, I'm a foreigner too, so it really has nothing to do with where he comes from. I could not give a rats about nationalities (other than french canadians of course), I mean from what I can see the Ford Fusion is put together in Mexico and the Toyota in the States, so why the big scream from the good ole boys when Toyota entered the series. Which car is really more American in that situation. I just don't like the dude, thats it, with JV it's all about his big mouth and the french canadian thing, but with JPM it's just because I don't like him, just the same as there are folks out there who dislike MS, Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, Dale Jr or Fernando Alonso.

Now I can go in peace !!

The thing about the coverage was that it was different than what they gave Barrichello, Massa and others (except Senna of course)... because JPM represented better the common latin profile ... with he's moods, temper and way of talking, he ate burguers as we did and represented us (the Third World) in the best league of the sport, he came from a country with no motor racing background and he made us proud ... but he had to prove his talent every day .. that's why he didn't have a seat in Williams until he came from CART winning everything in his first attent (very different from Mansel who was already a F1 champ)!... can you imagine RD sending LH as Sir Frank W did just to prove his value before having a seat in a F1 car??... if JPM didn't accept the rules impose by Sir Frank ... what could he do?... take the sponsors with him ?... which ones ???... take the latin audience away from F1 ?... who cared ??...(let's wait to see a regular good driver to come out from Japan or China and we'll see the difference !!)... and then JPM went to McLaren ("we'll make him better" said RD)... but then again the same old story ... so ... he's a racer ... he's a driver and loves it .. and made the move to NASCAR (even against his father wishes !!... how about Antony Hamiltonīs wishes??)... and I'm happy for him and glad he can eat all the burgers he wants !!!... and if he doesn't fit anymore in a stock car ... he can go and try the truck series !!!...

One thing is certain ... you can guess what a driver can do in a different league ... but to know the truth you have to watch it ... not imagine it !!... and JPM is doing it !!

I don't compare JPM ... I just like him as a package ... the way he drives and talks !!... precisely what you dislike !

It's hard to leave when you reply or post about racing ... but hey ... Bob ... I really wish and hope to meet you again next year !!... best wishes from this side of the world !!

LM !

Bob, I didn't mean you I meant my fellow Nascar fans and open wheel fans in the U.S. alot of them don't like it because JPM is a foreigner. It wasn't aimed at you.

Chill LGR, was just stating a fact, no problem at all, I only lose it when I get falsely accused of being a racist. I must agree, if Tony can still fit in a Nascar, JPM is good to go for a while still, and no JV's only problem is his big jaw, ther rest of him is ok.

Luis, go well my friend, have a great Christmas, or holiday season, whichever is politically correct to you, you definitely will see me around next year, along with my pal here LGR, after all the anal retentive idiots on the F1 site, maybe having good old fashioned chats and ribbing with real people will do the trick. See you soon, it's only 112 days to the first F1 race of 2008.

Hey Redneck Bob, No, it was not the racist thing. I hate that word!(racist). It has got to be one of the most misused words around. I can relate to 'sarcastic' etc. Rugger --- haven't we
improved lately??
