Denny Hamlin was held Sunday night at a Birmingham hospital Sunday for further evaluation after a tire failure led to a hard crash at Talladega Superspeedway.

Things had quieted down after Goodyear ruined the Brickyard. I wonder what they're saying now?!

From Jr at practice and every driver that had tire problems yesterday? I hadn't heard that.

I believe it was Dale Jarrett and those guys who had the reporters investigate what was going on and the tire pressure is not mandated but what they do is give a number you should abide by which was like 51 pounds.. and after they run for awhile the pressure builds up to 70 pounds,. On VL Kenny was explaining it and they said Talledega is the only track where higher pressure makes you go faster. Usually lower pressure gives you better grip but more pressure at Dega makes you faster.. so that is what was going on from Jr in practice even

My thought is, if the "recommended" pressure is somewhere around 51 lbs. and as a run goes on, the pressure naturally increases to around 70 lbs., why wouldn't Goodyear be sure and bring a tire that holds up when at 51 lbs. and holds up after the pressure increase to 70 lbs.? From my understanding, the teams are not permitted to run pressure lower than the "guideline", so starting out at 35-40lbs. would be out of the question. Sounds to me like Goodyear needs to quit blaming everyone and everything else and get their stuff straight!

I can't see the pressures increasing that much, they use nitrogen in the tires which is an inert gas, doesn't expand like air when it gets hot.
Same gas that's used to charge shocks for the same reason.
More likely that the teams were just bumping up the pressures looking for speed.

the teams are always going to go to the extreme to put themselves one up on everybody else..I do NOT want Goodyear to go and bring too hard a tire like they did before to stop blowouts.. the blowouts were not extreme yesterday anymore then they used to be.., the teams take the risk with tire pressure just like they take the risk with camber..

I see what you're saying, Debi. And I agree, to an extent. I just think it's funny that they know that the pressure will build, yet NASCAR frowns upon the teams if they use less than the recommened...but when the pressure builds, the damn things blow. Can't they just find a happy medium? I don't want to see a harder tire either, as that would totally screw up the race! But, I just don't get why they can't give a straight answer, fix the issues, etc. Goodyear is always "blaming" someone or something. I saw a guy from Goodyear on TV last night saying that the two tires he looked at had punctures. Come on....seriously? A puncture would leak air, the driver would more than likely feel it going down....not exploding with no warning.
