Carl Edwards got the jump on Jimmie Johnson in Friday's qualifying for the NASCAR Sprint Cup finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

That's a pretty inaccurate headline. It implies that Edwards should get credit for something he didn't do. when it should read something like 'Johnson Stumbles in Qualifying'.
We know he has a car capable of much better than 30th so it wasn't anything Carl did, it was all on Jimmie.
He's getting too anxious to get this done and over with, as was evident when he left to start his qualifying effort. He ran thru the gears like he was trying to outrun an atomic blast, and pushed it a little too hard.
It's understandable though since the compeition for the pole doesn't allow for you to give 99%. You have to bring 100, no more, no less, but he was carrying more than that on his approach.
