Good article from the inside view. Yes, please give us more! Its hard for L.I.'ers to get into Racing when they've been raised on the simple stick and ball sports. They have no clue how technical motorsports are. Give me Nascar ANYDAY over the Baseball, football or basketball felons and their juiced up games. Only 2 teams cometing? Thats not much competition compared to 43 teams at the same time.

And as far a a waste of valuable resources, Nascar only uses about 130,000 gal a season. The NFL uses more than that to fly their precious felons around the country each year.

So hooked I moved from LI to NC 12 yrs ago. Visit the race shops, friends with some drivers, and visit as many tracks as possible all the time. Yeah, I'm hooked on the sweet smell of high octane fuel and burning rubber!

Aint watched a ball "game" in years!

I'm not that big a racing fan, but it always seemed like Newsday was underestimating its popularity on Long Island.

I road in a NASCAR vehicle at a corporate event. We simulated pit stops and each participant got to ride in a special passenger seat. We hit about 165 miles per hour.

Despite how much fun we had and the thrill of the speed, I am not a regular fan - but I can see why others enjoy it.

Sportswriters have been doing this nonsense for years. Jim Baumbach thinks he's some kind of genius ground breaker with these hokey ideas

Here's some for you Jim

Plus the diesel fuel for the transporters one each for the prime, option and rebuild cars (that's 3-4), plus the JET_A for the jets to ferry crews and parts, plus the JET-A for the helicopters for logistics,
plus all those noob fashion victim fans with their RVs, SUVs and hawgs.

Yeah, a bit more than 130,000 gallons to run NASCRAP for a year.
