Toyota runs into a speed bump

Full story: Orlando Sentinel

Toyota hadn't even gotten a Camry to the track for qualifying Sunday afternoon and it already was a source of questions and speculation.

I think NASCAR is straddling the fence on this one. They want NASCAR to be a global sport by going to Mexico and Canada, yet I think they are choosing to make Toyota look bad in it's first appearance in racing. So, do they just want Ford, Chevrolet, and Dodge in competition? I don't get it.

I don't a problem with Toyota coming into NASCAR as long as they are treated the same as everyone else. My concerned right now is how NASCAR deals with the rules violations that was discovered in pre and post qualifing inspections. In Micheal Waltrips case it depends on whether there is even a violation but in the case of the 9 and 17 cars they are charged with the identical rules infraction that the 48 car had last year and caused them to lose the crew chief for 4 races. I would expect at least the same punishment for those teams. Anything less, and I intend to let NASCAR know my displeasure with an email. Actually, if NASCAR intends to stop this kind of thing, both teams need to be sent home to miss this race.

The Japanese government supports there car companies - they give them on average - a $3000.00 subside per car. They work together businesses / banking / companies to defend the enemy that would be us. Forget all the double talk about foreign cars made in the USA The Japanese and Germans wanted to take over our country in World War II. They lost the war but now many Americans what to give them all the rewards. When your child can not get a job it will be tooooo late. Its not NASCAR - they are out to make money - they do not care about you - how much money did Brian France make last year? It would be safe to say a little more than you or I. Do you home work - how many car magzines are owned by foreing interest. America's can not buy house's companys etc in other countrys - but here everything is for SALE.

I started life driving Fords. When I needed a small truck in 1977, all the American companies imported them from Japan(Ford Courier, Chevy Luv) and jacked up the prices. So I saved money and bought one from Toyota. I paid it off in 4 years and continued to drive it another 7 years with no problems. My only regret is that I sold it. I've had my 2nd Toyota truck 15+ years and my 3rd 1 year, still no problems. All but the first were assembled in the US of A. Americans build quality products. American companies miss the mark by losing focus and trying to be global. My Toyotas have hit plenty of bumps(speed and others) along the way but they just keep going.
All I can say is:

I don't know which way to go here. I have a gut feeling that only american maufactuers should be in cup. Then again, Toyota, started ASSEMBLING their cars in the USA, in turn creating jobs. The reason for this (a few years ago) was to circumvent tariffs & taxs. It was cheaper to import the parts & assemble them here than to ship in a completed car.

Nascar needs the diversity in auto makers as much as they need diversity in drivers, car owners, crewmen, etc. Yes Toyota is a foreign manufacture, but at the same time they are taking over the big 3 in auto sales. So why not let them race, but they have to earn it just like all the other cars out there. I say go Toyota and put Dale Jr in one.
