Are you serious?(that's a rhetorical question - look it up!) You are aware that he has EARNED a job with one of the premier owners/teams in the sport right?

Renee,
I had just posted a similar statement, and then I saw yours - glad we agree! I was unaware of the Teresa Menard romance thing though - and 'Mother Teresa'= ROFLMFAO!

Actually, Junior only got a Busch ride with Dale because as Dale said in an interview a while back "Someone asked me why I was paying these drivers to be in my Busch car when I could have my son drive it. I thought why not" BUT you are correct Spd, Dale would have NEVER put Junior in that Cup car if Junior hadn't earned it. Dale wasn't the type to GIVE rides away.
Junior may not be the best out there, but he's darn good.

OKAY guy's! I was useing Villeneuve as an example I ment all open wheelers coming in! With the open wheel concept of having thier own sponsors or a hand full of cash to ride! And you faithful open wheelers know what I'm talking about! I've no problem with a driver coming in and giving it a try, so long as they start in NCTS or run some ARCA for a while then maybe some Nationwide cars first! I don't care how talented they are there is a big difference in NASCAR! Anyone see the Busch race last Sat.? Franketti?(sp) Spun I don't know how many, ran over 3 or more got a penalty for aggressive driving! This is not because he is a bad driver, it's lack of expeirence at this form of racing!

Had Dale Sr. never started DEI, Jr. would have been in a HMS car from day one. All driving for DEI in the Cup Series did was put him 6 years behind. Had he been in HMS quality cars all along he would probably have 3 or 4 championships already. Give it a rest Ace and get back to work and quit playing on the bosses computer.

"always had the best stuff"? Are you watching the same season I am? Seven blown motors, and wheels falling off doesn't sound good to me, if that's the best they have, it's definitely time to leave. If he's going to leave (which we already know that he is), then who wouldn't want to go to a top tier organization like Hendrick Motorsports? I doubt that HMS is only interested in merchandise sales, that can't possibly pay the bills, the profit margin on that stuff can't be very high (at least not the part that goes to Rick Hendrick). I've got too believe that Rick is earning his money somewhere else (like his auto dealerships) and can therefore afford to indulge himself by owning several race teams - not the other way around.

I get the impression that you are actually questioning Dale Jr.'s talent/ability behind the wheel. With the level of nepotism within NASCAR, it is no surprise that Dale Jr. got into racing, but on his way to this point in his career he is a two time BUSCH series Champion (back to back even). So while he perhaps was given a leg up due to the Earnhardt legacy, and had the opportunity to race because his dad had a successful career in racing or even that his dad gave him his first ride - he's not alone. The same can be said about Matt Martin, Stephen Wallace, Dale Jarrett (Justin too), Buddy Baker, Richard and Kyle Petty, Paul Menard, Casey Mears. You also have similar situations with the entire Wallace family, the Labontes, the Burtons, The Andrettis, The Allisons, The Waltrips, The Busches, and the Sadlers - so in NASCAR, your name is often enough to get your foot in the door, but not enough to keep a sponsor or a ride even.

But if there was ever any pressure on Dale Jr. to perform - wait 'til next year!

I was referring to him earning a job with HMS, as I figured the same logic about the BUSCH ride would likely be applied to his cup ride. So I thought him earning a job with the likes of HMS would demonstrate that to those that matter at least (car owners and sponsors), Jr. deserves a ride based on talent/ability, not just his name. And I don't believe that Jr. is the best driver out there, but NASCAR has to have enough COMPETENT drivers in the field to call it a race. Look at Michael Waltrip - 463 career starts before getting his first win, the 2001 Daytona 500. Despite a rather dismal start/win ratio, Mikey is not likely to be the cause of major accidents week in and week out. Same for the likes of Kyle Petty and a couple others.

Isn't that part of the reason the top 35 rule was developed? There was a time when there would only be 42 or 43 cars that attempted to qualify - field fillers they were called. Show up, qualify in the back of the pack, try to race, pack it up when they had to and collect a decent paycheck for their efforts.

Ahh Spd, you are correct in that Junior earned his HMS ride. I totally agree.

The top 35 is old and is useless today. It was made up for the 40 or so cars that used to come every week to race and then were being punted by start & parkers. Since there are at least 48 teams that come EVERY week to race, that top 35 needs to be cut down to top 10 or top 20 locked, the rest fight over spots. If that's how it had been this year, Waltrip would have made all but maybe 3 races this year.

As far as Junior always "Getting the best stuff", Two is correct about that and so are you. What Two is referring to was before Junior announced his leaving DEI, he admittedly got the best stuff while Michael and whatever driver of the week was in the 1 while it lasted got the left overs and R&D stuff. Junior's admitted that, and so did Tony Eury Jr. It got worse when Michael announced he was leaving. Did you notice how Michael went from doing pretty decent to sucking big time after the announcement? Did you notice how since Junior's announced his leaving his engines are mysterious blowing up? They are now doing the same to Junior that DEI did to Michael just before he left.
I forgot what race it was, but my friend got mad at me(Junior fan) when I said "How much you wanna bet Junior's engine keels over?" and lo and behold it did.

Rocky, did you take a pill called "Dumbass" lately? First, Junior was NOT Dale's first driver. Yes, Dale built DEI so his kids could take over but that had nothing to do with securing any of them a spot as a driver, it was more to do with financial issues than anything.
Dale only gave Junior the Busch ride because it was suggested by a friend. Those are HIS words from an interview, not mine. He fiugred why not. He wouldn't have to pay the inflated salary other drivers require if Junior drove it. Now, are you going to call Dale a liar? Go ahead, dare ya.

I did, babe. I think we may be having a tropical storm within the next 24 hours. The wind is unreal out there and today, it looked just like it does right before a hurricane hits, windy, blue, clear sky, beautiful. If the wind picks me up, like it almost did today, I may have that opportunity to end up in either g's or your backyard!!!
