excerpt from the article
"I bring this whole thing up because you had a handful of experts with time on their hands, getting a chance to really dig deep into some of the issues ailing the sport. But we were all on the same page with more than you think, and I'll give you two simple nuggets to chew on from the table ...

1. Tony Stewart will never win another NASCAR championship as a driver/owner.

There was a lot of talk among the group, many of whom have known Stewart for decades, as to why 2010 went so badly for him. Not only were the results a disappointment (non-factor in the Chase, only two victories), but also off the track the moody Stewart was cantankerous with the press, more of a cranky old man than ever before while suddenly towing the politically correct NASCAR line in the face of "Boys, Have At It" methodology. "I think he's mad he's not a factor anymore, nor will he ever be," said one person in our group, referencing the oft-noted Stewart/Hendrick Motorsports connection. "That's got to eat at him more than people know."

2. The sport's insistence to keep the Chase is hurting the sport.

All of us shared with frustration the fan reaction to Brian France's comment in November, when he reacted with public surprise to a reporter claiming people wanted the current playoff format to go. They don't want it to get tweaked, as it will be during a competition update at the NASCAR Media Tour in two short weeks ... but go altogether.

My fan and comment inbox filled up immediately after that happened, people claiming they'd had it, and if no one down in Daytona was listening to them, their viewing habits would stop the second the Chase started in September. Already, those final 10 races, with the exception of Talladega, are in the bottom tier of NASCAR's ratings, numbers off some 20-25 percent for seven of those 10. It was refreshing to hear the same response across all platforms of people within the sport, in line with what I've heard from drivers off the record, other reporters, and people in the garage. It's clear what the fans want to see: so why won't NASCAR listen?"

so what do you think? Let's hear it!!!

Point 2 - factual and interesting information

Point 1 - Stick to facts Tom Bowles - I am not interested in your opinion.

He does not think Tony is a factor anymore?! As owner/driver for 2 years, he made both Chase playoffs. What the heck does Bowles want?!

Right! If Tony is not considered to be a factor anymore after he has made the Chase for the last two years, how can they justify even mentioning Dale Jr's name when he hasn't finished higher than 20th in the points in the same two years and hasn't done anything even worth mentioning in the last 5 years? Yet, for some reason NASCAR and the press continue to put Dale Jr in the spotlight. Go figure!

The only reason NASCAR come up with the chase format was because football was drilling them in the ratings (and even more so now) each week. Now NASCAR has given the fans a reason not to watch the first 26 races of the season now.

If Rick Hendrick is the reason for Tony not being a factor.. then I have been right and all of us and all NASACAR fans should HATE Rick Hendricks for taking out his competition... hopefully Tony will try to save the sport and wreck Jimmie every week early and let the true racing continue for the rest of the race.
if this SI guy thinks he just made people more endured to NASCAR.. he is wrong...he just made it so that I for one will never pick up another copy of SI and I will lose any of the last shread of respect I HAD for any drivers that do not go out there and WRECK JIMMIE EACH WEEK!!!!!

Tony is far from being out of contention. He can race with the best of them. I know I would be real uncomforatable if I looked in the rear view mirror and saw that 14 car coming. I also think this year will be better for him than last.

I'm sure happy that Tom Bowles uses Ex-Lax when he's stopped up.

I'm right there with you in that the only member of the entire Hendrick organization that I think is decent is Mark Martin. I can't wish for JJ to wreck each week, but I do think he's overdue for a string of bad luck.

I also want to believe that, as an owner/driver, Tony has too much integrity to allow Rick and/or Chad to influence his finishes.

You've found one bad apple at SI and you're throwing out the whole bushel. This article is based solely on one reporter's opinion, and he is obviously not a Tony fan. Therefore, feel free to disregard anything he writes. Maybe the editor of SI would appreciate knowing what we think of his reporter.

true... maybe SI needs to keep their noses out of racing... ESPN butting in was bad enough... but when they talk statistics in racing.. that is ABSURD because REAL racers DO get wrecked. How many races would Tony lead the most laps in that 20 car but get wrecked?? or lose because of a phantom debris caution conspired by one RICK HENDRICK's teams and NASCAR?????
Rick Hendrick is voodoo racing.. it is BS.. I detest cheaters and conspirators like him... I do not want Jimmie hurt.. I want his car WRECKED each week so he can be HUMILIATED as HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ALL THESE YEARS when guys would get out of his WAY when he was behind them, and they call him the CHAMP... PUHLEEZ

I didn't say Dale Jr was mentioned in this article, My point is: how can the media, NASCAR, etc. justify ever even mentioning Jr's name, if Tony is to be considered "washed up" after he made the Chase for the last two years, and Jr hasn't done anything worth mentioning for the same two years. It was a comparison. We all know Dale Jr is always being put in the spotlight, even when they are writing off drivers who perform much better than he does. That was my point. Don't much care what you think of my post or my opinion.

Cmon man, Jr is far from the best but he isnt the worst either. And I agree with you, Tony Stewart is far from washed up. He will win another championship, way before Jr will. But be real man, Jrs a Cup driver and his name has to be mentioned sometimes. Just does. I just found it comical the way you jumped right on that like you have in most your posts. Its hilarious!! Sorry if I warped your frame, it wasnt my intention. Dont worry.....Be happy!!!!!!Stagelights and Peacepipes
