They changed it to get Kyle Busch in the race.Besides Junior would qualify under three of six criteria: Past shootout winner, past Daytona 500 winner and past July Daytona winner. And there's no way he is current Rookie of the year so he's met three of five or 60% . Kyle has met one of five or 20%.

Bottom line is: Jr Nation won't have to wait until the 500 to start making excuses.

I said over a month ago that they would find a way to get Jr into it. As a fan of his I kinda wish they hadn;t only because of the criticism but I didn;t like that the past champions of the shootout weren't in the race. The defending champion Kevin Harvick would not have been in either so I am happy that he is in because he deserved it. I agree that Nascar (Brian France) has really lost sight of where this sport came from but they may get back to the roots someday.

NA$CAR will not get back to their roots until Betty Jane passes and then the board can give Brian the boot.

I had to go back and read the 2009 rules for entry and then the 2010 again.

Yes, you are right, it seems that the headline posted Jr, but he would have made it and Kyle would not have. Funny thing that everyone complained (including drivers) when the rules changed in 2009 to accommodate the manufacturer's... It left a few pole sitters out in the cold.

I'm hoping that they corrected the issue of past shootout champions not being in the race for 2010, and that brought a couple of drivers into it that should have been (Kevin being one of them). I think what people will see is that they did it for Jr. But Jr, would have won the fan vote, if they didn't include past champions. Haters will latch onto this and it will all be Jr's fault. I think NASCAR needs to stop tinkering with the darn race and find a happy medium.

Nascar had to change the rules,2009 rules were for the top four of each manufacture. Dodge only has three. Nascar did what they had to do to put enough cars in the show to make it worth watching. But of course it is always Jr's fault with some people, he can do no right.

On a side note every one in the nascar fan base have a merry Christmas and safe travels to your destinations.

As long as Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Brian Vickers, and Kasey Kahne are in the shootout I really don't care.

Funny how when last year they changed the rules around to make sure Smoke made it in you losers didn't come out complaining about that.

Like it or not but without drivers like Jr, Smoke, Happy etc.. Not too many people are going to go to the track and spend money. Vickers and Hamlin aren't going to fill those seats. The shootout isn't the 500 so people will choose the 500 and skip the shootout without your top bill drivers. Facts are facts.

if jr went away nascar would be fine, might be slow at first but it would be just fine, just like budweiser was supose to be dead without jr, seems like there doing just fine just like nascar would if jr left
