Montoya-Gordon clash at Martinsville was entertaining

Oct 26, 2009 | Posted by: The New Twenty | Full story: www.thesunnews.com

Even though Denny Hamlin and Jimmie Johnson had a spirited battle for the win in the closing laps of Sunday's Tums Fast Relief 500 at Martinsville, Juan Pablo Montoya's beating and banging with Jeff Gordon in the early going turned out to be more of a crowd-pleaser for the fans on hand at the flat, short track.

JPM has learned how to drive the short tracks!!! As soon as he started with the beating and banging, I knew Jeffy would start whining and sure enough, he did. Even Larry Mac was ripping on Gordon. LOL! I hope I don't read of anyone griping about JPM because all we've heard is that the racing has been too tame at Bristol and Martinsville. Finally a driver with the cajones to drive a short track the way it was meant to be driven. Bravo Juan!

I think Juan Montoya can be a punk but just like Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin they provide the excitement NASCAR seems to lack now a days. I thought there might be trouble after the race until I saw Gordon and Montoya shake after the race. It was just racing hope we see more racing like that at Dega I'm worried we wont since it's a plate race.
You're nutts to think that. I can assure you that man is ANYTHING but a punk. just wait til he finds the limitations of how much he can use his car without killing it, if he hasn't already. I believe Dale Earnhardt knew a lot about how much he can push people around on a track without injuring his car. Looks to me like JPM's about the only one who'll actually go out there and intimidate someone. He sure had Jeff going... I heard Gordon say "I thought I did something to make him mad!"

Sorry to anyone who doesn't like my comparison but JPM seems to me like the next Intimidator. And he's quick enough to be threatening!

I do think he's like the intimidator more then most would like to admit since he's from Colombia which I find shallow.
I dont understand how you can find a place shallow.:I

Think about how tough Juan would be in equipment as good as HMS stuff? He'd be tough to deal with for sure.

DE jr is one of the most overrated people on the face of the earth
i admit to being one of the non-Juan supporters but to see Gordon whining about him gives him some credibility with me. ANYONE who maks Gordon whine (which does not take much)

How many of you have seen this, and remember it?

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

I didn't follow F1 much but I had a strong liking for JPM when he came to NASCAR for this specific reason. I always think back to that day and wonder if they're holding onto some sort of bond after that event or if it means nothing and they don't feel any connection because of it.

Anyway, I think I know how Juan feels: It's a lot of give and take, and if you know somebody has a rocket, simply don't stand in the way. Nobody should expect they can hold a faster car from getting past. Ask Johnson and Hamlin about that.

Juan is a punk, wait until he comes up behind your favorite driver and wrecks him, then what are you gonna say. Gordon was doing anything but whining, all he said was he didn't know if he did something to Juan, if he did, he didn't know what it was but that he was pissed. You can pass someone without beating the he!! out of the back and side of their car. You don't have to automatically pull over and let them go, that's why they call it racing. Give me a brake, yes brake, I'll admit Jeff used to be a bit whiney, but not anymore, he'd just as soon take ya out in retaleation if he could get by with it. Whether you all believe it or not, he and Dale,Sr. were friends and Jeff learned alot from him including how to take care of himself and his car on the track. Who do you think taught him how to spin someone out and be able to keep on going? Dale,Sr. I never have been a JPM fan from the get go, doesn't matter who he hits, He's wreckless on all tracks and best not cause the big one this weekend. Speaking of whining, ever listen to Kyle Busch after he comes in 2nd in a Nationwide race? Get out the biggest violin you can find and play along--it's the worst.

As I remember, Gordon was doing what he was supposed to do - minimizing the room JPM had to drive into. I'm a huge Gordon fan but I call him at fault this time because if you reduce the amount of room to zero and get bumped, its your own fault so Gordon shouldn't have been complaining at all. He did what he was supposed to - make it damned hard for JPM. But the faster car is going to come by or come through. Get out of the way or retain your dignity by admitting to yourself you tried and failed. However, don't put it past a driver to play innocent and pretend for NASCAR's sake that they weren't trying to aggressively prevent a pass.

I'm a huge JPM fan though - I love this guy's attitude. He's not afraid to put a fender to somebody, and he's got every right if his car is strong enough. And if somebody don't like it, don't attempt to hold onto that real estate knowing full well he'll move you and take it from you. It's called blocking and it'll get you so far but you can't hope you'll just hold up traffic that's capable of invading your space.

And yeah, Kurt Busch is the best whining wussy out there. Remember his request over the radio to his crew chief- "Can I just come in and park it?" What a frickin' baby. Man up, set your sights on a car you think you can pass, and get after it!
