This is hilarius...

So your saying that after michigan they stopped trying to win, and started running experimental set-ups. Experimental set-ups for who? the #48? which helped him win three times throughout the summer?

They haven't stopped. They have been running experimental setups for the last couple months. You sound like the gloom and doom anouncers on ESPN. Junior has said several times that they have been running experimental stuff, but they don't listen. Now, they brought thier normal run of the mill setup and Richmond and Voila! He was top ten on the speed chart right off the truck. Jimmie and Chad used to use the summer to experiment with setups a couple years ago and it worked out fine for them in the chase.

Tony is a smart man. He picked a good team (with HMS's backing) and he picked a great crew chief.
I hope it all works well for him in 2009!

Looks like SHM will be just fine next year. Looks like Riggs will be able to keep the 66 in the top 35 so I'm sure that will end up being the 39 car for RN. The Smoke will take the 70 car as the 14 and he will have the past championship provisional to ensure his spot for at least 6 races.

thats good for Tony, I was worried about him not making it into the race because its a new team. But I bet he is glad he has that championship... I am really happy for Tony

Wow.....you are dense. I never said they stopped trying to win. I have no clue where you got that. I pointed out that the 88 team has been running different setups then they usually did during the summer months. Junior said this on the Cali prerace show and they pointed it out in practice at Richmond. They brought their normal setup to Richmond, were fast right off the truck, and got a top five.

Yep, dense. He was in the chase unless he had a couple really bad weeks. So, they ran different setups. Why? To help them get better! As I have stated before, Jimmie and Chad did it a couple years ago and they always picked it right back up before the chase and were competitive in it. AS Junior will be. I hope you get it this time, becasue I am done trying to explain it to you.
