Carl Edwards' reputation in the garage is that of Eddie Haskell to the 10th power. A fake, an ass and a bully. If NASCAR thinks the fans aren't wise to his act, that's just one more illustration as to how out of touch NASCAR is with its fan base. The "face" of NASCAR? How about Kenny Schrader or Greg Biffle, or one of the other decent, hardworking and well-liked drivers??

is it April Fols already? Surely this is a joke. With all of the other options out there...this is choice A?! He is not even a one time Sprint Cup champion.... and until the very end of last year he had not won a race in 2 years? Has he even won the Daytona 500? Championships aside wouldnt Mark martin be a better choice! For someone that drives in all three series regularly...all that extra lap time... you would think he would win a bit more often. I know he has won a race this year already, and two at the end of last season but does that qualify you to be poster boy! Must be the flips he does which will stop the fist time he lands incorrectly and sprains or breaks an ankle and misses a race. Then Rousch and / or his sponsors will put a stop to that. Then what ???

He aint even got a championship under his belt. Stewart champed with both points systems. I'd say at least have someone who didnt slump for damn near two years...

Jeff Gordon inherited the title way back when and nobody needs to wonder - he's still got the most wins of any active driver, and he's a good guy. When people start doubting he should hold that title any longer, it goes to Johnson. That much is certain.

Edwards is probably as nice as any of them, but the redneck non-sport has long ago overdone its time and will contiue to rapidly decline in popularity as will all sports!!!!!!!!!! THE WORLD IS ON THE VERGE OF COLLAPSE THERE IS NO MORE TIME FOR GAMES!!!!!!!!!!

Like him or not, think he has talent or just riding around on the family name, it matters not. The reality is NASCAR already has a face and his name is Dale Earnhardt Jr. This isn't a position or title NASCAR appoints someone to. This is a position of recognition give by the fans. In the 60's and 70's it was Richard Petty. Then it was Bill Elliott for a short time and Dale Sr. took over. Since his father's untimely death, it's been Jr. whether he wanted it or not. There's no one else in the sport that commands the attention. Let him break into the top 10 in a race and the camera virtually doesn't let his car and if he gets the lead, you don't even have to be looking to know it happened. If you're not a Jr. fan and sick of the attention he gets now, you'll need to lock yourself in the closet if he ever does win again.

You are right and I hate to agree with you because you're a Gordon fan, but As long as Jr has his fan base known as JR NATION, Nascar has nothing to worry about as long as he's in a ride. If anything ever happens to Dale Jr, Nascar is destined to go downhill. All Dale Jr is is a public figure that makes Nascar money. It don't matter how good or bad he does, Jr Nation is loyal to him. The true test was when he joined the same team as Jeff Gordon (nascar's most hated driver) and Jr Nation remained loyal.

Good point, I hadn't even considered the fan fav for so many years running should be, however... considering the performance history, if that's so, It's a bad choice. Should at least have a championship to be my choice.

It's amazing to me that he became a fan favorite without a championship. Individual sports like auto racing, wrestling, and Track and field are a little different than team sports like football, baseball, basketball, and hockey (just to name a few) because normally in team sports theres a face of a franchise that is normally the best player on the team where as in sports like auto racing, and wrestling there is normally somebody that the fans love and somebody that the fans hate and that is solely decided upon by the fans.
