Talk about a bunch of ignorant idiots. Read the whole story before you place judgment on Carl Long. If it wasn't for little guys like Carl Long, Almighty Nascar would be nothing today. Nascar was built around the little guys. Carl Long was screwed by Nascar and all you people have to do is cut this man down. This is a man that has LOST everything, because a .17 of an inch. READ THE STORY! And then make your judgment on Carl. I'm sure most of you will feel foolish afterwards.

matter what you race they do have rules and that
includes Carl Long.
Yes they do, but the penalty they gave Carl was too much, How in the heck is his car owner supposed to pay 200k? The guy went into the hospital with Chest pains over this.

That Penalty is to much. The builder of that
motor which is Ernie Elliott is the joker they should go after. Why is he building and selling motors that don't comply with nascar rules???
He should take care of paying the crew chief penalty. He needs to get his ACT together......

I agree, If they need to penalize anyone, it should be the Engine Builder. He should know the rules.

Snow, you're a racer and know a little something about motors. Carl has been running that same motor for a couple of years now. During that time he has probably tore it down and put in fresh rings and pistons. Normanlly when you does this you run a hone through and hatch the cylinders. NASCAR knows Carls situation even better than we do and they still are so heartless they will destroy this man just to make a point about how tough they are with rules violations. It's bullsh*t. Tear any passenger car motor down and it only has .17 of a cubic inch wear in the engine and you go back with standard rings and pistons.

Snow, since you seem to be the Mr. Wizzard of NASCAR, tell me why they allowed Richard Petty to retain his 198th win with an over sized motor. Why they only suspended David Hyder for the substance in Mikey Waltrip's air cleaner? Very obvious answers, Richard is King, Mikey was at the time the flag ship team for Toyota and he is also the brother of Jaws. Carl is a nobody with no sponsor and no high powered person, like a Roush or Hendrick behind him. How many times has the #48 been found illegal and how many times was Jimmy Johnson suspended?

NASCAR is not the NHRA (National Hillbilly Racing Association) and unlike the NHRA is operated by one family who also operates almost half of the current cup tracks.

Baby France knows he will not face a lot of wrath on a suspension of a Carl Long or Jeremy Mayfield, however, could you see this little person (devoid of manly assets) suspend Jimmy Johnson?

Hell, one year the car driven by Ward Burton came to Richmond and the inspectors found by an anonymous tip that the top of the roll bars had large holes drilled in them to reduce weight at the top of the car. Ward Burton never got suspended. I think that was a bit more dangerous than an over sized engine bought by a low budget racer, most likely in good faith that it was OK.

Why not just cram the biggest damn engine you can stuff in there and the guy who finishes first wins?
Excellent idea. By "in there" do you mean the rear ends of:
Homer Ballard
the doctor
Allison L

After taking the time to soak this all in
I do agree with you.I wish after the 12 race suspension the other drivers would join in and help get him back on the track. This would show
nascar they did not like what they did. It's very strange he has had that engine all that time and all of a sudden it's now not within specs.
I know when Richard ran his big engine we had some other people calling the shots but now I agree it seems if you don't have a shit load of money they want you to stay home.I just found out that he had been running that engine long before they found it was not to their liking....Well have a good day...

Just got through talking with our engine guys. They cannot believe this is happening after all the time he used this engine and all of a sudden it's not what nascar thinks is legal.
I guess if you don't have a pot full of money nascar wants you to stay home. I hope the other friends and drivers can jump in and help him
during this time. I guess we will hear more on
Mayfield next. Robby Gordon is another one nascar don't like. How is retirement going for you??
Are you keeping busy.?

i used to be a huge nascar fan, but anymore i am not,the frances has ruined racing, you cannot work on the cars,if you fart it is actions detrimental to stock car racing section 12-q.
nascar is sports communisim.there is a simple fix to racing, put a roll cage aand safety in a production model and run them, stop racing on so many cookie cutter tracks, let them duke it out with tradin paint or fist of fury.get rid of restrictor plates, hire drivers from the working class. kick toyota out. get rid of the ground hogg. and run what you brung.
i think mayfield and long was railroaded. nascar wants enron type sponsers, they need to hire vince mcmahn to run nascar
