The article says 173,000 fans. Was that the official count? I was there and it looked like the front stretch was 99% filled up and the back stretch could have only held a few thousand more. I was wondering if this was the best showing for NASCAR so far this year. Did Daytona beat that?

Daytona is always listed as "Sold Out" (you can always buy tickets though)due to Corportate sponsor groups. It's just that fewer people can afford to make races more than a 1 day trip. Sure is sad to see so many seats open on race day though.

Texas is always sold out on race day, you can always find tickets for the nationwide race that wasn't near sold out but Sunday was packed,I didn't see one seat that was empty. And when we left Monday morning the camp ground was trashed I couldn't believe what a big mess it was.

Yeah, those little football get togethers of 30,000 or 40,000 fans sounds like more your speed, United States.

We were there for 3 days and despite the wind, we had a ball the whole time. People that don't GET NASCAR, don't realize that the race is just about 40% of the event.
