April Fooled: NASCAR Hoax Causes Web Frenzy

Apr 1, 2009 | Posted by: lilbit88 | Full story: buzz.yahoo.com

It is freaking redneck cars going in a circle - who cares. Also - I don't want my tax money paying for the three American car companies subsidizing useless pseudomarketing trite.

If you hate govt handouts, how do you feel about the fly overs at every race?

The fans like it!! I actually think it is a good thing, you know the Air Force is going to fly anyway, they may as well let the tax-payer see something!

They log it as training!

I'm more concerned with the Air Force Academy Cadets taking a couple of C-5's to Hawaii to "pack the stands". Now that is fraud, waste, and abuse!!

What makes you a deserving student? What did you do to deserve a portion of MY tax money to help pay for your education? I worked and paid for my three childrens education, I should noW be allowed to keep my retirement money and my social security check without it being taxed to help pay for others. Get a loan and get a job!! How much if a good 140 going for?
My plane was appraised at 60k for the latest insurance policy.

As much money as you think I'm taking there is many millions that go unclaimed by students....all anyone has to do is a little research and they can get an educational grant.

I thought since my dad was retired and has some decent assests that I would be denied...I applied anyway...full disclosure.

Everything is on the up and up!

BTW the plane was gifted to me, it is not touchable!

You know, that is why rich people like nascar drivers create charitable foundations..... So they can donate a large portion of their income to them tax free and pass it on to their heirs without payin the inheritance tax. The drivers take money out as income while they are alive, and their heirs do the same. The only amount that ever gets taxed is what they take out and spend. It all avoids inheritance tax, and federal income tax is avoided or at least deferred to the later date when it is taken out as pay and spent.

A Car and Driver April Fool's hoax on the Web, reporting President Obama had ordered Chevrolet and Dodge out of NASCAR after the 2009 season, turned into a sizzling Internet topic Wednesday.

"Just when we thought we could take a breather from Barack Obama's wacky policies, he reached across the Atlantic today to drop another spy sunglasses on us," wrote Sandra Rose at Rightfielders.com . "Naturally, NASCAR fans are outraged."

Car and Driver later pulled the fake story (which estimated savings of $250 million between the manufacturers) and apologized for "going too far" while noting the magazine " has a proud tradition of irreverent editorial and we amplify that each year with our April Fool's Day joke."

The mea culpa wasn't enough for Denny Darnell, " http://www.espow.com/wholesale-security-surve... ; who does public relations for Dodge's motor sports program. He wrote in an e-mail that "I've been in this business more than 30 years and I have never seen a story so irresponsible."
