Mark Martin deserves respect, no doubt about it. But The number 8 should have been given to Junior. It is a Family number. Teresa was just being the B!tch she really is by not letting him have it. I am ok with Mark driving it sometimes, But not a rookie that is not blood! Like the #3, Richard Childress said that number will never be on the track without an Earnhardt behind the wheel. Should be an interesting season.

YOu are prbably one of those Talladega Beer Throwers aren't ya!!
Dale Sr. drove the 8 car in 1975 for 1 race, three others drove the same number that year. In the meantime between then and 2000 when Jr. got the number many other drivers have been in the 8 car. 1998 Morgan Shepherd
1998 Buckshot Jones
1998 Hut Stricklin
1997 Hut Stricklin
1996 Hut Stricklin
1995 Jeff Burton
1994 Jeff Burton
1993 Sterling Marlin
1992 Dick Trickle
1992 Rick Wilson
1991 Rick Wilson
1990 Bobby Hillin, Jr
1989 Bobby Hillin, Jr
1988 Bobby Hillin, Jr
1987 Bobby Hillin, Jr
1986 Bobby Hillin, Jr
1985 Bobby Hillin, Jr
1984 Bobby Hillin, Jr
1983 Bobby Hillin, Jr
1982 Dick Brooks
1982 Bobby Hillin, Jr
1981 Jimmy Means
1981 Dick May
1981 Rick O'Dell
1981 Kirk Shelmerdine
1980 Kevin Housby
1980 James Hylton
1979 Ed Negre
1978 Ferrel Harris
1978 Ed Negre
1978 Skip Manning
1978 Dick May
1977 Ed Negre
1976 Ed Negre
1976 Gary Matthews
1975 Ed Negre
1975 Dale Earnhardt
1975 Dick May
1975 Dean Dalton

So that is not an earnhardt exclusive number.

Mark is just trying to please DEI and the fans with an answer to a dumba** reporter that knows the question has already been asked a million times but asks it again anyway. A number is a number. A number doesn't build a car, maintain a car or driver a car, people do all those things. Numbers just identify things. The number 8 use to identify Dale Earnhardt Jr. and before him a lot of other people. Now the number 88 identifies Jr. What's the problem?

If it's a family #, shouldn't it stay in the family business? Just because he left doesn't mean he's entitled to anything.

If Jr. didn't demand way too much and act like a brat, he probably would still be driving it.

[QUOTE who="TFC"]I am ok with Mark driving it sometimes, But not a rookie that is not blood!
You're ok with MM but not AA? I didn't realize MM is related to the Earnhardts.

You are confusing two entirely different things.

1. Dale is/was a legend who lost his life in the #3.

2. Jr. is a average driver, living and making his career from his last name. He has proved nothing and if he doesn't do something this year, everyone will realize the medocarcy that his name has been hiding.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that's how it is.

Whats in a number? Nothing!
Whats in a driver? Everything!
The driver matters not the number.(along with the crew)
Why does there always have to be something to whine about? Lets just get to revving, racing, beatin' and bangin' and see who's number is going to take the top spot. My bet is on the 24!

The reason there is so much whining on here is because you are whine central.

Jr. fans whine, bitch and complain about everything.

It's always someone elses fault and Jr. does no wrong.

You wait to see how many and what excuses they will come up with after next Sunday.

I bet they've already got a list going or at least they should start thinking about it.

They're going to need it!

Where did I say that the number 8 was an "exclusive" number? No, I am not a beer can thrower, But I did used to be a stock car driver. Ralph Earnhardt started with the number, Dale had it, Junior had it, and others as well. But it is just as synonomys with the earnhardt name as the number 3. I hope this clears up my point.(By the way...I am a GORDON fan)

And the #8 is still synonomous with the earnhardt name, at DEI. NOT at Hendrick. Jeffrey earnhardt will be driving a handful of busch races for DEI this year. I want to see that DEI #3 busch car on the track again...

Well slick, there's a new one we've never heard. If you're gonna dis us at least find something worth reading, something that isn't from the other Busch era. Betcha didn't think we were that quick on the up take huh? Well we are, so common now, find something with some real "WOW" appeal.

Uh, dude or dudet, you said; "Why does there always have to be something to whine about?"

You're the one who has to "get it right".

You asked a question and I answered you.

Now do you get it?

That's absolutely not true. Jr makes plenty of mistakes just like the rest of us.
This is not whine central as you call it. you've made your opinions very clear, and only a few have chosen to agree, that's why you choose to categorize us. YOU CAN'T CHANGE OUR MINDS! that makes you crazy, otherwise why would you continually come to this forum to beat a dead horse?
As far as a list of excuses there are none. If he does well so be it. If he doesn't there always next week.
Take Care and have a good day.

the 3 will stay retired...
the driver of the 3 died behind the wheel and was a true legend. the driver of the 8 whined and walked away from the 8 car.

HE ABANDONED THE 8. HE SHOULD BE BANNED FROM EVER DRIVING AN 8 CAR AGAIN.
