From what i read today, after the merger, GEM will be called Richard Petty Motorsports and Reed Sorenson, from every outlet ive read, will be driving the 43 next season with the 10 ride being done away with and Air Force sponsorship will be on the 43, but that's only a four race deal. I dont know what Valvoline's plans are, or Best Buy, Stanley, and McDonald's for that matter as far as the 19 car, but i know i read today that there isnt much left in the Petty Enterprises shop and that there was a sign on the door today that said "Closed for Inventory", so i think the writing makes it evident. Well it seems the paparazzi has spotted B L hanging around D E I. So I wonder, 8 or 41. We.ll see. Oh and just random thoughts- John Darby, Jim Hunter, and Mike Helton are the three stooges of Nascar. I think Brian France is the worst thing to happen to Nascar since it started.

Labonte is an idiot! I thought that when he went to Petty's and i thought he'd wise up after that disaster, but obviously he's lost his damn mind! I hope Stewart has to use the past champ provisional for every race he can and makes Labonte miss races! I think he'd be better off if he had merged himself with GEM, and that's alot to say for that crappy organization! HOF is a bad organization to drive and im still angry for how they screwed Brad Coleman last year by telling him he'd replace Yeley and Coleman had to give up his #27 Nationwide Ford ride as it was a conflict of interest since HOF was running Toyotas last year to take it over, he ran one race and they cut him loose. Plus they were stupid for hiring Yeley and Tony Raines and Yates is second tier Roush who just gets all Roush's leftovers, and so that'd make HOF third in line and if Yates hasnt won any races in three years, what the hell makes him think they'll win next year! Im sorry, if he couldnt get the 43 in victory lane, then he wont get this one in there either and it's hard to believe he went to just as shitty of a ride as he just left! I couldnt blame him for taking the EGR ride as it was better than anything else out there, but i dont know what the sponsorship deal was, but i hate this move by Labonte and i hate that he'll be in Fords.

OMG...I couldn't believe this. I'm afraid he will end up just like Terry...running around in an R&D car for the last years of his career.

I was really hoping he would team up with Chevy, JPM and Truex...dang it anyway. As much as I hate to say it, in today's world, good guys usually finish last...:-(

Come on Folks, what is happening is plain as the nose on your face. Like I said before, the man is 44 years old and hasn't been in a competitive car in years. He hasn't done well enough of late to be able to bring any sponsorship dollars with him. His total worth is his past champions provisional. For all intents and purposes, he will be driving the Roush R&D this year.

I dont by that. I think that he has just lost it because he was the top candidate for the RCR ride when Cheerios went over there. I know for a fact they wanted him and more than just because of his champ provisional. I also know after the 2005 season that Ganassi also wanted Labonte and was the only option that Havoline would take, at first, to let McMurray go to Roush but turned down the 42 for the 43. I dont know if he likes to get the hardest challenges, but as far as im concerned he's pissed his career away and i hope this is the end of the road for him. I like him, but like Ward Burton, too many wrong choices when it came to signing with teams.

I hate to see him embarass himself out there every weekend, never a threat for wins and a midpacker, if lucky, i'd just rather see him end his career, but it's not like he'd be ending it on a good note as he's already embarassed himself the past three years in the 43 ride. I like Sterlin Marlin, Bill Elliott, and Ward Burton, but as the recent years, they have looked awful on the track and i'd rather see them retired. The sad thing is they all ruined their careers themselves. Bill voluntarily left the 9 ride and even came close to winning the last two races in 2003. Sterlin had an offer from RCR to drive the 07 Jack Daniels car, but turned it down to go back to Ganassi thinking he'd get a long term deal and the next season he was fired, and from what i hear Ward Burton when he left Bill Davis, he had alot of great offered rides, but took Haas because of the money and it blew up in his face.

Unless my math is worse than I think, with the demise of 44,15,66,22,01,and now 38, I think 96 is in the top 35.Somebody correct me if i'm wrong.

#96 is out of the top 35 in owners points and Labonte is a past Cup champ, so he would have a past champions provisional to use [since Labonte was the Champ in 2000, he would get the spot before #21-Bill Elliott, who was the 1988 champ, but after #14-Stewart, who was a champ in 2005] Per Jayski

The 44 owner points went to the 00, and the 00 owner points went to Ambrose in the 47 car, and the 66 owner points is now Newman's in the 39 car. The 15 and 01 is now done away with and that moves Ambrose(who was 36 in owner points #00) and the 10 GEM car(is 37 in owner points), which they say will be part time and will run the first five races, then it gets locked in in place of both old DEI cars, and Sam Hornish Jr's fate as far as being lock in depends on whether the 22 car runs Daytona or not as the new owners have said if they get sponsor they will, but if not then the 77 car(38 in points as of now) then becomes locked in and Gilliland's owner points could be goin to Menard's 98 car, and the only way i could see Labonte getting any owner points is if they give Kvapil's owner points to Labonte since ive heard he doesnt have enough sponsorship to run the full season, but Labonte is a past champ, he just better hope that Stewart dont have to use his, which i do, then Labonte would have to qualify in to the field.

I know this is a new question, but didn't they used to run for #1 and #2 starting positions at Daytona before they did anything else? I haven't seen a date or time listed for that. Anybody else?

One week before the Daytona 500, the Sunday before, they qualify for the Daytona, but the only ones that get set are first and second place, the front row, and the rest are set up for the Gatorade Duels which is ran on Thursday afternoon.

I realize that. I just can't find anything saying that's what they will do this year. There's nothing on the schedule anywhere.
