If I understand it correct, the championship will come-down to 4 teams, and finally based on one race at Miami...

NASCAR seems to have modeled/branded similar to the sweet 16...I like the emphasis on winning vs constant points racing....not sure about one race determining the final champion, but maybe I misread

Actually, the new format should help with the single/double car teams...just win!

The four car shoot out should be interesting for the last race.

A drivers can win the first nine chase races and be 100 points ahead of everyone else and the tenth race a start and park takes him out lap 10 and he loses the championship. This isn't a stick and ball game with only two teams playing, it's a field of 43 teams out there and should not be played like a two team playoff setup. I think it's a very bad move by NASCAR.

A couple comments:
- A team could win 35 races and still not win the championship.

- As "Do not like it" said, one bit of bad luck in the final race can ruin an otherwise championship bid. Compared to other sports, where a team can come back from a mistake or another team member can step-up to help a teammate having a bad day.

- During the Chase, if a team wins the 1st race, can they park their car for the next 3 races?

On Race Hub yesterday, a reporter said NASCAR probably would not have changed the Chase format if Dale Jr. was winning. That's wasn't to imply this latest change was to help Junior win. The reporter meant that if Junior was winning, NASCAR wouldn't have done anything to change the format.

On Race Hub, no one that was interviewed; no driver, team member, or reporter thought this change was a bad idea. Not one. NASCAR's draconian control over "the message" continues.

Who's running NASCAR? Vince McMahon?

If a team or driver dares to say anything negative about NASCAR or any of these new dopey rules; they'll they'll end up with fake pit lane violations, failed post race inspections, failed drug tests..........

I disagree with the championship based on the final race, but the new format solves some issues for nascar...

If the drivers don't like it, too bad...why bash a sport that makes you an instant millionaire?

This will add drama and excitement, but the final champion could luck into it between the four...maybe jr can now win....

If they had this format this past season Jr would have won. And 2012 Kyle Busch would have one.

With 43 cars on the track it's too easy for someone to get wrecked. Forget the start & parks. Say Bowyer is in the top 4 but Vickers isn't......... Vickers could very easily wreck one of the other contenders with a whoopsie, I didn't mean to clip his right bumper and send him into the fence!!

Lol.... Now instead of a 10 race champion there's gonna be a 1 race champ now. Maybe David Ragan can win 12 championships now and be considered the greatest of all time

The boneheads running NASCAR probably figured this would give Jr the best shot at winning a championship.

it just like anything else that nascar does , for the good of Hendricks , Jr. would have won last year , so why are they changing it , because Jr. would have won , and maybe to help Danica , who also drives for Hendrick along with Stewart, Kurt Busch, and Harvick .....and I'm sure it won't hurt Gordon ether ....

They should reset the points every 10 races so a driver can win 3 championships a year. In 3 years Ricky Stenhouse could very well be a 9 time champion and rub it into Richard Petty's face

he doesn't need that, he's already rubbing it into Patrick's face.

I think Patrick has been rubbing it in Stenhouse's face for awhile now
