Nascar is dead....... Look at all the empty seats at Bristol.. Nascar is getting what it deserves...... I was a long time NASCAR fan season ticket holder at Charlotte, Bristol, Richmond.. Then they got away from Southern roots by shutting down the Southern races and heading out west.. Good riddance, with the addition of Toyota and drivers who can't speak english Nascar is disappearing....

Watching the Bristol race live right now.

NASCAR announced in February 2013 it will no longer provide attendance estimates.

Based on historical published attendance figures Bristol has a capicity of 160,000 people and did sell out until 2007 but has been in decline ever since.

NASCAR estimated last years crowd (2012) at 102,000 down 18,000 from 2011 however other unofficial estimated were 80,000 in 2012.

My estimate from looking at the stands versus photos from last year I estimate another drop in attendance between 10%- 15% from last year.

Using the media reports of 80,000 last year this years number may fall below 70,000.

I don't see an easy fix to the attendance issue. At the current pace of decline sponsorship will become more difficult.

NASCAR, like other sports, is much more concerned about TV revenues than race attendance. Its unfortunate but true that there is more money in TV than in on-site race sponsorship. Ratings are mixed bag this year - way up at Daytona, flat at Phoenix, down at Vegas, apparently flat for Bristol.

Bristol has the problem of being a long way from anywhere - I've been to three races there and enjoyed them but its a major pain to get in and out of the site. Its a place for dedicated fans, for sure.

EMPTY SEATS @ BRISTOL (AGAIN)! Obvious decline in ticket sales again this year. Good racing though. NASCAR is trying to make a return to it's roots especially with the car and qualifying changes. The driver and crew chief definitely have more control of the performance of their machine. Attendance should improve after people watching on tv see the improvement in racing quality. That is as long as they can afford the cost of a weekend devoted to their favorite sport!

Nascar is dying. Attendance continues do drop. I have had enough of the good ole boys that run it. They announced in Fed that they will not supply attendance information anymore. Once again trying to control information. I have been following sprint car racing for the past two years and love it. Much more exciting and affordable.

I remember going to the N.Wilkesboro race Gordons rookie season and calling Bristol the following Monday only to be told they had already sold out both races for the next two years. I remember when you had to buy a ticket to the Busch race if you wanted to buy a ticket for the Winston Cup race. Saw highlights on the news this evening and the track was half empty. The California Cup crowd will probaly look like a Charlotte truck series crowd next week

back in the 90s and in the 2000s Bristol put additions on the the track because of the long waiting list for tickets , and also 10 or so years ago you had to buy a Busch ticket to get on the list for Loudon NH , I think the reason for the drop in attendance is the cars , the chase , the price , and the change of making it a race into a TV show ...

You forgot to add that the racing is horrible, Hamlin was fined for telling the truth.

Check out the large advertising tarps they are using to cover out the large blocks of unsold seats at the ends of the grandstands. The TV camera operators were told in the past NOT to pan any shots where the stands weren't full but that was impossible at Bristol. Even the trick of painting the seats different colors to look like the seats are occupied doesn't work anymore.

Seemed like an ok race, but did not watch it all....

The bump and run became difficult once the track repaved and the groove moved high...although kayne could have done it, there was a good chance of being part of the wreck too....
