Hello

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to buy furniture in Mozambique. We are building there and are wondering if it is better to buy in Moz.

Thanks

Hi Noreen....
I'm in the same boat as you except I recently bought a house in Moz. and currently looking for those essential bits and pieces. My wife is searching Maputo for a good bed and small furnishings she's a local so she knows how things are.
I'll gladly pass on anything useful to you. Products are available but the price can be high for quality items, South Africa is a better place for range and price but.... Moz border tax is savage and sometimes can be up to 50% Use your initiative on that one would be my advice, what the eye doesn't see doesn't pay tax. New items attract the tax so don't carry in orginal packaging with reciepts etc...
I'm going over to Maputo for a month in just over a week so I maybe can get hold of some first hand retail info useful to you??

HI Andy,
I'm in the same position and thought about taking stuff across from South Africa, but I know of 1 family who had to pay in excess of R30 000 in tax!!
Any advice would be much appreciated!
If possible, my emails address is [email protected]
Good luck!!

Have been here for 4 years + .... Better stuff at better prices is available in RSA... you have to be ingenous about how you get it across the border. maybe you know someome at customs etc.... the locals do not know anyone or have any useful information, better to enquire about stuff yourself and do things yourself.....my info is late and not specific but ive just downed a couple so bear with the shit....

Otherwise just go to Home Centre.. has a few outlets and buy the stuff - not much choice - and higher cash outflow- but suck it up , yourre probably in moz because the $$$$$$s are better here.....
