Fratini's Opens First Overseas Franchise In Miri
By Ignatius Stephen Bandar Seri Begawan - Brunei's first food franchise eatery this week made history by venturing beyond the Sultanate in putting down its stakes outside the country for the first time teaching the Sarawakians the know how in fine cuisine. The move was made by the homegrown leader in the local food industry, Fratini's Restaurant, which has taken its brand name overseas as a franchiser. Fratini's Restaurant, specialists in Italian cuisine first opened in Brunei in 1996 and has since been growing in number of outlets in the Sultanate. Now Fratini's has established a joint venture in Miri with Mohd Razif bin Abdullah a Sarawakian businessman and has established its first overseas franchise in Sarawak oil town over the border. Fratini's in Miri is situated at Boulevard Commercial Centre, Jalan Miri-Pujut. "The move is significant because it is usually Bruneians who are the franchisee of foreign master food chains. "Take for example US based KFC fast food and Pizza Hut with their expertise training the locals. "Now Fratani's unique Italian cuisine techniques are being taught to Sarawakians. Brunei has thus become a trail blazer," said a Fratini's official. Awang Mohd Razif said, "Yes, we want to learn from Brunei. I was looking for a suitable partner for some time now. Fratini's fits the bill exactly." Like other franchisees, Fratini's in Miri bears the uncanny resemblance of its mother outlet in Brunei. The chairs and tables are the same, the decor tasteful and food simply Italian and superb. "People are flocking in since the soft launch this week. It is something people in Miri have not enjoyed. Then there is the expatriate population who are overjoyed," said Awang Mohd Razif. To begin with, Fratini's is sending its staff from Kuala Belait and Bandar Seri Begawan to train the local people. "The same stringent standards will be applied to produce Fratini's brand mark Italian dishes as in Brunei," said a Fratini's official.-- Courtesy of Borneo Bulletin |

ONLY BECAUSE YOU NEVER BEEN TO A REAL ITALIAN RESTAURANT FRATINI DON'T EVEN HAVE AN ITLIAN CHEF... TRY GRAZIE OR BELLA OR LUNA ROSSA OR THE MEDITERRANEO ONLY THIS HAVE THE TRUE ITALIAN CHEFS WITH ITALIAN BACKROUND. MARCELLO, MICHELE, NICOLAI, CRISTIANO E MARIO ARE TO MY KNOLEDGE THE ONLY ITALIAN CHEFS IN TOWN TRY THEM OUT AND THEN YOU CAN REALLY KONW THE DIFFERENCE. GOOD LUCK |

Hotgoddess so tell me more about Grazie. In addition the way you speak about Little Italy is not fare for your info the Mamma prepares all the secret recipes the fact that is finished by local chef it does not mean that is taste less.
Marcello is doing a great job at Grazie but his knowledge of Italian Cuisine in general is above average. I my self go to all and Bella Italia so far is the one that keeps me happier then any other for their authenticity and for the inspiration too. They come up every month with new dishes so that their patrons don't get bored with the usual spaghetti. Luna has the best surrounding but lucks of ideas I guess but the best lamb shank in town Fratini has only the look but not juice if you know what I mean. Buon appetito Grazie |

hmm, I missed KK.... Anyway, good start for everyone to promote their business in here. So people know where to find it..
Cheers~ |

ITALIAN CHEF~ what can I say is different ppl has their own desire and own liking... Bella was good to me too 'but thats 2yrs ago'.. but now, they are too simple for an Italian cuisine..nothing so much special.. not mentioning others like; Frattini..dont really like it..I liked it better RMS Frattini Brunei..Luna best set-up in town,relaxing..good home style cooking...
There are non such thing as secret recipes!!Italian food are all the same, whether they just add more Pure Olive Oil or Too many Butter in it!! whichever that suits ur tongue.. I agreed with you 'that it will taste' much less bcos there arent chef!Italian chef is very important when it comes to a good food... its like when you eat chinese restoran 'a pure malay chef' who cooking it... it just not the standard! sorry to mention... |

ahahahaa...:)
hotgoddes...since when you are such a specialist about italian food? All italian food taste the same? please.. In italy we have many regions, with many different LOCAL products. The north uses diary product, the south uses Olive Oil as condiments. As per Italian chefs, would like to remind you that a kitchen team is NOT the Italian Chef as one man will never be able to cook for all patrons. Its the training to sous chef, chefs de partie, commiss I II and III, kitchen helper that counts and the level of commitment the chefs and the entire team, from owner to dish washer has towards his/her job. Remember, the problem is not getting to the top, ITS STAYING THERE day after day, year after year. I dont and never did boast to own the best restaurant, but when i have a full house, 180 pax ( x 3 or 4 ), everybody eats and leaves happy within the hour. Can a Single italian chef do that? Ask yourself. On an endidng note behind little Italy there is an entire italian family, Myself, my father and my mother...all italians..all chefs..all waiters and all dishwashers if needs be! Regards Emiliano Little Italy Pasta & Pizza Corner GF Hotel Capital Jln Haji Sahman, Kota Kinabalu Tel: 088-232.231 Ciao :) |

Grazie..... Emiliano
Some of this people think they are more clever then others and with that been said ids good. So when they will get in trouble then they will truly understand the meaning of been a restaurateur... Ciao |
Hey emiliano,
Ok bah klu ko...biar betul! |
ok bah itu
the fact that frattini serves pineapple pizza is a big warning sign....correct me if i am wrong, afaik, no self-respecting italian chefs would put pineapples on his/her pizza....
ciao emiliano, mind losing the ghastly light deco inside & outside your restaurant? i'm tempted to try your cuisine but the deco is a real turn-off, even from the outside. molto grazie!! |
So all happy all good that's brilliant at least every body is well. As for the pineapple yes agreed not Italian chef will ever have pineapple an their pizza but as a restaurateur you need to adapt and change if necessary to please your guest. I firmly believe that the world is much faster now days and like Emiliano commented that at the end of the day is the business structure that count more now days then the individual. Bah that's all and for everybody Buon Natale e ricordatevi di porgere l'altra guancia a che vi da uno schiaffo. IT MEANS TO SHOW THE OTHER SIDE OF YOUR FACE IF SOMEBODY SLAPS YOU...IS A CHRISTMAS NOTE IN ITALY... Ciao a tutti |
