Perhaps the U.S. Secretary of Defence should concern himself with military matters rather than advise congress regarding drug policy and Mexico.

Perhaps the drug problems in Mexico affect us, we are the consumers and they are the suppliers. If the supply was to stop, then drug consumption and violence would decline drastically.

these liars are just looking to pay off someone, let the mex pay thier own way , put that money into stopping people comming over our border and the problem will go away ,, inspect every truck and ship and charge them for the service,, the drug war started because some hi grade coal in south american being mined by usa company could not keep workers because drug lords kidnapped them to work in coke mills , we have been paying for the lie that has failed for how many years , no one even the moron in the white house now could not have stopped drugs from entering this country with what they have spent , i really think they are in on getting them here,,, iraq is just another drug war but for oil this time and freedom or whatever the current lie about why we are there is being spun , time to bring our troops home and let other countrys solve thier own problems without our help and lives !!!!

It would be interesting to see the stats on drug related deaths and hospital stay deaths compared to deaths in iraq. Or prison related populations...

Only FOOLS would ARM/FUND the Invaders---use the Money to build a DOUBLE FENCE spaning the Entire Mexican Border and give the USA Military ORDERS no one and no Material crosses into the USA except at AUTHORIZED/HEAVY MANNED crossing Points.

Mexico SLAPS the USA in the FACE ever day with the CROSSING of Illegals from Mexico into the USA.

Gates should CONCERN himself with the BEST WAY to prevent INVADERS from crossing our Borders and landing on our shores---as they do by the MILLIONS each year.

Not be worried about ARMING/FUNDING them--- and then to say ---not to do so is a SLAP in Mexico Face----just HOW DANG IDIOTIC/SCREEW-UP can Bush/Gates get!!!!!!!!!!

I have great respect for Gates. He is an excellent SECDEF. Mexico and drugs are not in his purview and I differ with his judgment call here. Mexico makes a hell of a lot of money off of drug dealers. Mexico gets a hell of a lot of money .from the US. For all we have sent to Mexico and for all drug dealers have given to Mexico over the years - drug interdiction into this country has increased a 1000fold. Murders have increased a 1000fold! Let Mexico handle Mexico and let the US handle the US. Up until now the US has done a very very poor job. They cannot keep people out and they're only authorized pepper spray use at the Border Patrol as they face down AK47's. You can thank the Congress for that!!!!!!!!!!
