Why do we celebrate an obscure Mexican military victory over 150 years ago in Mexico in the USA in the 21st century? Answer, beer. Beer companies started pushing this in the late 80's to sell beer in the beginning of May before the college students left for the year.

Thats what makes this country great. Cinco de mayo who cares, everyone needs to loosen up. Music, food, happy people we need more
of this. I don't get bent out of shape when we celebrate (Octoberfest) German celebration.

There is a very simple solution to this problem-DON"T GO TO THE EVENT! "THESE" people will be fine without your support. I'm SURE the event will survive without your presence as the world does NOT revolve around you! BUT...I'm sure that the rest of the people that do attend will have a wonderful time enjoying good music, entertainment, food and company of friends. DON'T start trying to divide the Deming community as TOO few events take place in the community to begin with pathetic racist comments. THANK YOU!

Celebrating Cinco De Mayo here is fine with me, but I have one comment: In the parade, please remember what country this is and hold the American flag higher than all other flags...

So would you feel diffferent if I was to chant " Hooray for Dixie " or Hi Hitler!, I knew it would get someone's goat by me posting this. Who gives a shit what they celebrate I am an American true and blue Buddy and will remain one till I make the journey. Don't take life so serious if we lived near the Canadian Border i'm pretty sure you would gripe about the French holidays that are celebrated there as well. Lighten up and go join the jalepano eating contest. Beside's that you will probably the first in line at the taco or burrito stand. Alot of you complain about La Raza but when you go to the local restuarant the first thing you eat is the salsa that is placed before you and then order a a mexican meal.
" Stop Complaning and join in on the fun. "
Dont be so ignorant and learn something new, for the longest time I never knew why I celebrated the Cinco de Mayo which has been in exsistence alot longer that I have, it was just another day to get drunk and party. Do you realize how much partying will be going on this weekend.Alot of Food and Beer will be sold this weekend and no cabbage or green beer you have to wait till October for that and even then people will party, all of us have to come to understand when it come to people partying and getting drun this does not have a race or color, a drunk is a drunk irregardless of his origin.

And for those that are catholics that gave up going to the bar's or drinking for lent its time for them to go out and get drunk and party.
It's Just Anothe reason for people ot get drunk so lighten up on the racial remarks and go get drunk and be merry! Just Please Dont Drink and Drive !

Come up with something intelligent to say. "Go back to Mexico." Seriously?

I want to end illegal immigration as much as anyone, but not all brown people are illegal nor all white people legal.

GO BACK TO MEXICO! Please, start thinking and writing comments that are realistic, educational and inlighting...... not nonsense. If that were the case and the founders---the REAL founders of this nation thought the same as you then we would not be speaking English as I stated long ago on another blog. AS of 30,000 years ago the French/Spanish from Andorra area that walked the Atlantic glacier ...Our official language would be Catalan. OR 15,000 the Siberian-Mongols made their way from Beringa then we would speak URAL-ALTAI family of languages. Take your pick but bottom line......NONE of them spoke ENGLISH and didn't return to MEXICO. Educate yourself before you speak out of your pootooty.

I am in agreement. WE all-self included need to remember proper protocol for flag respectfulness. What ever happened to men removing head cover- cap/hat especially "MEN". All people need to stand every time our US flag passes by. If it is presented twenty times in a parade then we must get up and stand twenty times as our flag passes by. I don't see people doing this just my family and we get many strange looks from those around us and I'm Mexican American. PLEASE show respect for our flag and stand to recognize this countries grand flag and men remove your damn hats. I wish I could smack them off when I see such disrespect and have children stand as well. Education starts at home. My Mom did a good job educating her daughters.

Everybody just needs to lighten up and "live and let live". Life is too short to be griping about every little thing. Communities all over the U.S. will be celebrating this day as there are many of Mexican American heritage who live in every city, town, village in the U.S. We are a melting pot, have been and always will be. All nationalities (Italian American, Irish American, Polish American, Vietnamese American, Chinese American, etc.) are entitled to celebrate their heritage and those that want to join in should be welcome to do so. If its not your cup of tea then don't go. But let those who do, do so. Albuquerque is having one great big fiesta to celebrate this and the Native Americans just had their "Gathering of Nations" in Albuquerque,San Francisco celebrates the Chinese New Year. Thats what makes the U.S. such a wonderful country. Where everyone can celebrate who they are. I have never put down Octoberfest, St. Patricks Day, etc. We all belong to this country and should be united not divided. So holding up a flag that represents your nationality does not mean you don't have allegiance to the U.S. It's just a symbol of your nationality. People shouldn't feel threatened by it. We just witnessed a royal wedding and we all loved it. So whats wrong with wearing a hat with the British symbol.

That was the first thing I noticed as well, Star. You don't EVER fly the American flag down at the same level as other flags in this nation.

There are a lot of protocols that are not followed anymore like there use to be. Someone like the Chamber of Commerce should put out a list of rules and protocol for parades since they are in charge of putting on the parades in Deming. Maybe its out of ignorance or no one letting the participants know, but traditions and protocols need to be taught.
