No brainer. As soon as Mexico controls the border and the gangs, I'm taking the family back for vacations.

More and more rich Mexicans are buying "vacation homes" in the USA. When things get bad the wife and children can go there.
Only a desperate or foolish person will vacation in Mexico at present. It is not safe. Mexico is a "country out of control." The cartels claim and control parts of it and the government is powerless to stop them.

I'm sorry, but the above three posts are panicky, uninformed reactions to news stories about Mexico.

I am an older American woman who lives alone right outside the city of Oaxaca. One of the reasons I love living here is because of how safe I feel compared with living in the US.

Get a grip, y'all. Do some research so you'll avoid any problem spots, then come down and enjoy the wonderful climate, food, and culture in this country.

Far WORSE, as we have ZERO business in Afghan. But we have a real interest in what goes on in Mexico.

Not really.....they stay on their side of the border, I stay on mine....we use US dollars for Americans and America...they take care of their own people.

You are right, but the CNN Fox news culture back home is to scare and as you can see it is working. Facts escape people here, why have facts when emotions can be so much more fun.
You live in a beautiful area compared to mine and yet I feel no more at risk than I did when I lived in the US. Of course if you live in Little Town Idaho then Mexico or any big city might be scary. What the good people of Mexico need is our support not to turn our backs on them. And for crying out loud, Mexicans aren't the problem....criminals are and there are more than a few opportunistic american ones here right now not to mention the ones profiting on the north side of the border. I am off to Cancun for Superbowl weekend and the only dangerous thing will be if I forget my sunscreen.
Best part of it for me is that all these guys with their narrow vies are actually paying my salary here! Enjoy Bix, I will join you in about 12 years with my wife.
