We went to Progreso yesterday for their Winter Texan appreciation day, where they have entertainment and vendors in a 5 block section of the main drag(no cars parked there for the day), along with great bargains beyond their regular low prices, and free Mexican food and drink. Plenty of things to do. We felt safe; the cartels aren't going to get the wrath of the U.S. Feds brought down on themselves by doing something stupid. And, if it's your time to go, then it's your time to go.
