The accident was terrible and a great loss to many. I must ask, though, if the four men in the truck were legally here. Mr. Dots was a tremendous loss to many and I wonder if he might be alive today.

Look at the picture and read what the paper says about hundreds attending the services. This shows how many illegal Mexicans are in NC especially the mountains. Now we know why there aren't any jobs for Americans in this area, they are not taking jobs no one else will take but taking the jobs that are paying decent. SEND THEM ALL BACK TO MEXICO AND DON'T ALLOW MORE TO COME IN.

Yeah, and I'll bet half or more of those Mexicans are here illegally! This would have been a good time to have had a "green card check" and rounded that many of them up and sent thier worthless asses back to from wherever they came!

i agree with alot of the other comments on this site. even though i hate to see people die this way. i don't believe they deserve to be here anyway. just think my uncle would still be here if it wasn't for them. and they probably were illegal.

This article was akin to showing the celebration of the life of a murderer while the innocent victim was ignored. Utterly disgusting. Deport all of them! This paper has some very distorted priorities. And they are stupid in pandering to many of those who don't even read it nor likely can since it is not printed in Spanish.

These comments so far are shameful and a disgrace to the population of our mountains.

Differing views on how to handle social issues is one thing, cold hearted disregard for human life is quite another.

Everyone is going to die, and when that happens, all that counts is how do we stand before God.

I agree with those sentiments expressed previously on this thread.

If one reads all the way to the end of the article, one learns that "Magana's uncle, Javier Sanchez, said he was upset with news reports on how the crash happened, since, he said, no one really knows what happened. Sixtos was driving without a license, the Highway Patrol said."

Now: either he had a license, or he didn't; either he was in the wrong lane when he hit Dotts, or he wasn't; either he was here legally, or he wasn't. In what way do we not really know what happened?

If withholding information in news reports "out of respect for the family" of one who caused another's death is the way they do things in Old Mexico, then you know what journalistic standards will be applied here in the near future.

And I agree that too little coverage was given to the Dotts family's tragedy in this edition of A C-T. Jimmie Dotts was the real victim in this nightmare, and he should be accorded greater acknowlegement and respect than the one who took him from his family.

I agree that would have been a good time to get a few illegals off the streets. As far as Nema Ray saying these comments are shameful and a disgrace well their not even close to the shamful disgrace of how these illegals are running wild and disrespecting this country and its citizens by doing so. They shouldn't even let illegals be buried in this country.

Obviously, I do not agree with Nema Ry's comments.

Nema, we are tired of seeing our people killed by those who are here illegally and should have been deported by now -- indeed, they should not be here in the first place. Our government does a great job of restricting We the People in our daily activities, but it ignores its Constitutional mandate to secure our borders and keep us safe from all who would invade us. Why SHOULDN'T we be angry?

Another way they do things in Old Mexico is to deliver the severed head of a local politician to the offices of the local paper and kidnap journalists who write the truth. Nice.

Yes, it takes the media a little while to "leak" information out about illegals--and they do it little by little...then it's a one liner with ,'but','or','because' as they are afraid of PRINTING the real truth. The real Americans can get a whole page written up on them if they did such as this.

I pray for those who spit hatred in these comments. I pray for all the 5 men lost in this horrible ACCIDENT, for their souls and that God blesses the families and friends who have lost loved ones. I pray that the forgiveness and love that Jesus tried to teach us will at some point touch your hearts. I also pray that those who comment with hatred on this site will put your political views aside just long enough that the family of Mr. Dotts and the 4 other families who are grieving can do so in peace. Leave them alone. Please.

""Mexico has become the world's second-most dangerous place for journalists after Iraq with seven journalists killed across the country since October. A Mexican TV reporter and cameraman disappeared earlier this month in the northern city of Monterrey.

Many journalists hold back from reporting on drug gangs.""

This happens in the USA also...if you don't think these illegals are NOT potential terrorist's, think again...Don't go on feelings--read what you can find on what the USA is doing to herself by allowing more and more illegals to come and sit a spell.

This was no accident, this was a willful disregard for the laws of operating a vehicle and it caused the death of a good man. I have no more sympathy for the illegal driver than I would a drunk driver who kills innocent people. Just as I had no sympathy for the Columbine killers, dieing during the course of your crime doesn't make one a victim worthy of the same honor as those you killed. Jesus died with 2 others that day, I think it's fair to say they were not all equal and deserving of admiration.

""Three people – two North Carolina State University students and a 16-year-old – have been killed by an illegal alien, who allegedly was driving drunk, and already had a record of crime in the United States.

Authorities say Pastor Rios Sanchez, 55, is expected back in a North Carolina court on Nov. 15 on charges he killed Helen Meghan Hughes, 22, of Summerville, S.C., Jennifer Carter, 18, of Jacksonville, N.C., and Hughes' stepbrother, 16-year-old Ben Leonard.""
**********
""It was only a short time ago a twice-deported illegal alien with a record of drug arrests was told he was facing jail time. Marcos Ramos Medina, 35, who was found to have at least eight aliases and falsely identified himself at his first court appearance, escaped serious injury on Aug. 4, 2005, when his car swerved several times across the center line, causing a tractor-trailer rig to jackknife in Yakima, Wash. His car then plowed head-on into the 2000 Lexus driven by Peggy Keller, 53, dean of distance education at Yakima Valley Community College, killing her at the scene.""
**********
""Scott Gardner of Mount Holly, N.C., was on vacation and heading to the coast with his family when his station wagon was struck by a truck driven by Ramiro Gallegos, an illegal alien charged three times previously with drunk driving. Gardner, the father of two young children, was killed. Gallegos of Mexico was charged with second-degree murder and driving while impaired.""

""...a court heard the case of an illegal alien convicted of running her car into a house and killing a 91-year-old woman. A judge ordered Vitalina Bautista Vargas deported. Amazingly, the family of the victim remained compassionate and merciful. "They wanted one of the conditions to be that she learn how to drive," prosecutor Jay Wood said. Prosecutor Wood said federal officials insisted that she be deported. He said as a convicted felon, she will not be allowed to apply to re-enter the country for at least 10 years. Louella Winton, the victim, was asleep in her bed when the car crashed into her house. The vehicle knocked the victim through the bedroom wall and threw her against the wall of the house next door.""
**********
""There also was the case of Victor Manuel Caballero. Even though he entered the country illegally from Mexico five years ago, the New Jersey Supreme Court ruled earlier this year that he could collect damages for being hurt in an auto accident from a special state fund set up to benefit those hurt in accidents with uninsured drivers. Caballero would hitch a ride to his computer job with a co-worker, 19-year-old Ricardo Martinez. One morning, Martinez fell asleep at the wheel, veered off the road and struck a parked tractor trailer. Martinez walked away from the accident, but Caballero, who also was illegal, was badly hurt. The hospital costs of $38,300 were paid by a charity fund, while his successful lawsuit found he was eligible for up to $15,000 for "pain and suffering." ""

Poor Mexicans. You got that right! They probably didn't give Mr. Dotts family a discount on his burial services and theres no churchs taking up a collection to bury him. This country needs to take care of their own and let everybody body else feen for themselves.

First, I think Jesus believed in right and wrong. ITS simply WRONG to crawl into another country and have no clue. I dont feel sorry for these people. They make me sick.

And the AC-T not giving hardly any recognition to Mr Dotts is a slap in the face to legal Americans who belong here.

Bash me all you want, but I want these illegal things gone, NOW!! I guess Im the piece of toast right next to you, Jeff Dreibus.
