Surge in fatal shark attacks blamed on global warming

May 3, 2008 Full story: www.guardian.co.uk 393
Some experts suggest that an abundance of seals has attracted high numbers of sharks, while others believe that overfishing has hit their food chain. 'I'm not saying it doesn't happen, but it's a convenient excuse,' Burgess said. Another contributory factor to the location of shark attacks could be global warming and rising sea temperatures. It is NOT Global Warming. I am sure there must be some connection between the number of sharks looking for seal meals and the number of baby seals clubbed to death in North America. Humans are just replacing the seals. God, they taste just like seals.

Hey, all you people need to give the "over-stressed scientists" a break, they need some easy answers so the government can continue to OVER-finance their bogus "research" for the good of --- well something. I personnally like this GW as it keeps my coffee hot and helps melt the icecream so I don't get "cold headaches". And by the way, some of us humans do eat shark, even if it does not taste like chicken. If a shark sees or hears movement in the water and he/she is hungry then they have lunch, I know that sounds kind of simple but might just deserve some consideration as one explaination. The more people in the world the more people in the water at lunch time.

Man, there are some real idiots on this board. I can tell by the preponderance of monosyllabic words containing less than five letters. It is likely the USA Today-conservative-camo-NASCAR -4WD truck-spit tobacco crowd again. Increases in populations in various species are always cyclic, as is everything else including economics, and the increase in ignorance/ conservatism, which, hopefully, is near its terminance. Global warming/ change is likely because of the rapidity with which it is occuring, which is unprecedented. Fortunately, the ill efects are concentrated in the south and midwest where the dummies reside (Tennessee and Indiana). Please enjoy your upcoming droughts.

KTM...you are so lost in the GW woods, drinking the Kool Aid! We had warmer weather in the 1930's. We are always warming and cooling. It is called a "cycle". It hasn't gotten any warmer since 1998.

The Spanish were growing orange trees in Georgia in the 1600's. Now that's warm. It must have been caused by the preponderance of sails interrupting the prevailing Westerlies.

It's always our fault. The only real solution is for all mankind to disappear and leave nature alone. Men are evil, well, everybody but environmentalists are evil.

No, it's Bush's fault that you stubbed your toe. If Clinton were president this would've never happened ;-)

The movie "Jaws" was in the 1980s. I grew up in Florida in the 1950s. They had shark attacks back then too! Shark attacks are nothing new. They have a lot to do with fishermen throwing chum overboard to attract fish. We suspect Al Gore in this latest incident.

As a New Smyrna Beach native, I can say that the shark bites are nothing new.

Population growth = more people in the water = more bites. Especially with the rising popularity of surfing at the jetties where the sharks have always liked to feed.
