The U.S. homicide rate is 4.8 per 100,000 population. Mexico's homice rate is 18 per 100,000. Mexico's homicide rate is TRIPLE the U.S. homicide rate.

DON'T TELL ME OR ANYONE ELSE THAT MEXICO IS SAFER THAN THE U.S.!

However it happened quite recently that a Canadian woman was brutally beaten in the elevator in her resort hotel in Mexico. While such a crime might happen anywhere, it was made worse by the fact that the authorities tortured a confession out of an innocent drunk who happened to be in the vicinity at the time. Mexico has become a largely lawless country and I don't need to vacation somewhere where I have to be gated off by private security forces.

Many days ten or more people are murdered in Chicago or DC.

Look at this real-estate web site and look at these million dollars homes with no gates....
Most open right up to the beach and ALL beaches here are public.....

www.lapuntarealty.com

I don't live in a gated community.........

Lady ga ga house is not in a gated community......

Bill Gates house is inside the wall of Punta De Mita but he has no fence going out to the beach....

This is low season now as the temperatures are in the 90s during the day and the Four Season at Punta De Mita is 50% occupancy....

We are talking about some rooms that are more than 10k US dollars per day.....
During high season they can go up to 30k USD per day.....
And in high season they are booked full........

Maybe not where you vacation but it is my favorite place in the world to live.....

We have not spent 30 days in our house in Sonoma County in the last 5 years.....

If these hate mongers, like "FailFoxy", are sooo concerned about all the violence in Mexico, then they should take a look in their own front yard, and realize that the huge DEMAND for narcotics comes from good ole US CITIZENS. And this demand is the MAIN cause for all the drug related violence in Mexico, so, instead of posting all your stupid drivel here, why don't you go out and preach to all the crack heads and crack whores here in the USA, and try to affect a decrease in drug consumption...that is, if YOU"RE SOOO CONCERNED, IDIOTS!

USA #1 CONSUMER OF NARCOTICS IN THE WHOLE FREAKIN WORLD!!!

You're right that the huge Americna demand for illegal narcotics drives a lot of the violence in Mexico. I agree with you there 100%!

I think that there are 2 possibilities regarding narcotics in the U.S.

1. Admit that the "War On Drugs" that has cost untold billions of dollars over the decades has been a failure, and that we give up, and that narcotics be legalized.

2. Institute TOUGHER PENALTIES for the possession and sale of narcotics including mandatory life sentences for possessing and/or selling small amounts of narcotics, and/or an effective death penalty for possessing and/or selling small amounts of narcotics.

Which do the American people want ?

The USA has more money. So they can spend more. I live here in Chihuahua. They have heroin and crack houses where the people shoot up. Same in all of Mexico. The newspaper vendors, taxi drivers and taco vendors sell drugs. In some areas they line up waiting for their pushers. Since their is so much crime here in Mexico, you do want to see these poor people quit killing each other. Lets make a proposal. Lets see Mexico quit using drugs first. Since they are being slaughtered for it. With all the killings here in Mexico over drugs it should be easier then in the USA to stop the use of drugs as they are being effected first hand.

Lets see Mexico lead by example. It will not happen. That is not the way it works. Drugs are in all countries.

Lets hypothetically say it was Mexico to the North and they were the ones with all the money, power, influence, beautiful homes without barred windows and high fences with razor wire. Remember I live here in Mexico. Believe me no one parties harder and longer then Mexicans.

Lets say USA is where Mexico is currently. The Americans are poor, starving, crime is rampant and they have an average 4th grade education as reported by Mexico. Services are poor and they are in desperate need of help. They have this huge abundance of drugs that they can sell to the Mexicans up North that have a lot of money to spend. The Mexicans are more successful and they live better lives. Do you think the Mexicans are going to stop buying drugs because of all the Americans being killed South of them? Not hardly. I enjoy parties, but they have parties at the drop of a hat here in Mexico. If there is a party for a 5 year old girl, everyone is getting shitfaced here. Not so in the USA.

The biggest problem for Mexico, is Mexico. It does not matter who lives North of them. If they were Germans or they were British, and
they were successful and had extra money to spend things would still be the same. People are people. Mexico needs to clean up its country because they cannot expect anyone else to do something that they would not do. Remember the USA drug users are the victims and the users, just like drug users in Mexico and all over the world. Mexico is the hard handed pusher that will do what ever they can for money. Even if it means killing each other. It is not about the drugs to them. It is about money. They are doing way more then just selling drugs for money you know.

Show me a city in the USA with 500k people that averages less than one murder per year
Puerto Vallarta- population- 255,725- homicides- 56 (2011) rate per 100,000-21.96
Miami- population- 399,457- homicides- 84 (2010) rate per 100,000- 21.0
Cleveland- population- 396,815- homicides- 88 (2011)- rate per 100,000- 22.2
Oakland- population- 390,724- homicides- 95 (2010)- rate per 100,000- 24.35
St. Louis- population- 319, 294- homicides- 144 (2010)- rate per 100,000- 45.14
New Orleans- population- 343,829- homicides- 199 (2011)- rate per 100,000- 58.0
Orlando- population- 238,300- homicides- 28 (2011)- rate per 100,000- 11.76
Las Vegas- population- 583, 756- homicides- 86 in 2011, 116 in 2010- rate per 100,000- 14.75/19.89
Buffalo- population- 261,310- homicides- 36 in 2011, 55 in 2010- rate per 100,000- 13.79/21.07

You are off on your population and murder statistics. But still not bad. It is the petty crime that can drive you crazy. Not the murder rates.

If your numbers are correct, then Puerto Vallarta has a far HIGHER homicide rate than The City Of New York.

http://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloads/pdf/cr...

The City Of New York has a population of about 8.1 million people. There have been 223 homicides in the city so far this year. That's the lowest amount ever recorded since reliable city crime statistics started being kept by the city.

That's also a homicide rate of 5.5 per 100,000 according to my calculations.

THAT MEANS THAT PUERTO VALLARTA'S HOMICIDE RATE IS ABOUT 400% THAT OF NEW YORK'S !

YOU'RE SAYING THAT'S BETTER ???!!!

Anyone want to refute my numbers ???

Your numbers have a few problems..........

First the 500k figure I was using is the whole bay from Punta De Mita to Boca de Tomatlan

In the whole bay there are over 250k Americans or canadians that live here more than 6 months per year.
But they are not counted on the census.
Even my family that lives here full time for the last 5 years are not counted as we are here on what use to be called a FM3.....
A FM3 is a non immigrant visa so we are not counted..........

Second problem is that the homicide rate is calculated for the whole bay but the population numbers are not.....

Nor are the more than 2 million visitors that came for spring break last year alone......
Or the other millions that visit here every year for a month to 6 months..

So when you factor in the del numbers the crime rate is lower than any large US city....
