I think the sister city program is a great idea. I'm proud that we participate in such programs. But my only concern is why are we not protecting our own police reserves who volunteer their time and save the City of St. Paul money by assisting the St. Paul Police Dept. Why don't these fine citizens get bullet proof vests when they are working crowd control, special events (Cinco de Mayo),etc. Aren't their lives important too?

First of all, we are ALL Americans-Canada, US and Mexico. Then there is Central America and South America. All Americans.

But back to the Sister City concept. This is a good thing for the understanding and friendship between people of other countries. Sharing usable discards is a valuable way to cement good relationships.

Almost 40 years ago, I saw barefooted children playing baseball, with sticks and old tennis balls in Baja. I returned to my home in CA and called my son's Little League coach to ask if we had any usable discards. Turns out, the league was changing the uniforms and all the old uniforms were available to me. The league donated many balls and bats, too. We outfitted 13 teams of all sizes.

A while later, the Aeromedics had too many supplies that would not fit on the planes, and expiration dates were coming due.(Not usable in US for sale) I took a complete truckfull of supplies and marked medicines which were used in the start up of a clinic in San Quintin.

Let us not begrudge the little and big things we can do for our third world neighbors. Sharing this way is priceless. Relieving a little of the poverty is a step in the direction of global solidarity.

I thought allowing all the Mexicans to cross the boarder and work illegally and sending their cash home was enough "giving" for one country.

Now the host country is bleeding out all the Mexican rats return home to live their chosen life.

P.S. thanks for voting illegally for BO, now were stuck with the idiot.

I'm sad to see that a story about sharing and giving, and the sister city concept can bring about irrelevant and nasty comments. Perhaps the hateful writers have never taken the opportunities to look at the bright side of life. It does not cost anything to share a rainbow.

My husband has a favorite comment about negative people--"The more I know people, the more I love my dog.".

With the sanctuary policy, maybe they should consider loaning them rather than donating them.

I think it's Funny that the article states that some vests were outgrown. They also could have been donated to the citizens of North Minneapolis or East St Paul.

Which proves what Farid? That whites have been snowed by the left and suckered into voting for these Liberal nuts? We already proved that in the recent past with the elections of Carter and Clinton.

BIG mistake! I am a 35 year law enforcement vet working both sides of the boarder and I guarantee you these vests are resold to the cartels on the black market. You cops will soon be facing a killer wearing one of your own vests.

Birth control would be more effective and less expensive.

So that where police commanders go who want to be chief. He has been seen sporadically at work for years. Then again, this chief is missing in action too. We are use to it.

Explain "below the belt." I merely expressed a heartfelt thought about my dog.

Welcome to being a super power, we help other people with our money. Our lowest standard of living is higher than almost anywhere else in the world. But it's the same nasty people on here that complain about the Mexican cartels forcing their drugs on Americans, here St. Paul is trying to help them fight the cartels, which are supposedly such a big problem for us, and people are mad about it. you just can't win

Bullet proof vests are hot and heavy, not really meant for crowd control, the person wearing them would be more likely to have a heat stroke. They're typically used for high risk raids, vehicle stops, etc. If the reserves wanted or needed them, they'll get new ones, the ones donated are probably old and worn out, so it would be an insult to an American reservist to get one. To a Mexican police officer these are like gold.

I thought the cops were donating them to Sara Jane Olson's neighbors since she's getting out tomorrow. I hope Governor Beady Eyes has his on.

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Leo

Even though you usually pride yourself on being the strong silent type, love has a way of unlocking your tongue. The words coming out of your mouth may be familiar, but your sense of timing makes all the difference right now. Keep in mind that you never know how a risky gesture will work out, although you can always hope for the best. When in doubt, take the more cautious path.
