Mexico blames delays on Brenda Martin
“Consequently, she has been successively represented by different legal teams -- a decision taken by Ms. Martin that has significantly contributed to the delay in her trial.”

"Right now there is so much negative publicity for Mexico, and for what? For a 51-year-old woman who allegedly received $26,000 illegally?[Someone] has to put this in perspective and simply let me go."
Right there the bitch has admitted finally to her guilt. Let her remain, she did the crime there, why allow her the undeserved privilege of time in a easy going liberal minded prison in Canada? Let her rot in Mexico, as she said no one even cares about her. Let her kill herself, anyone who has those inclinations is a loser anyways and no use to society. She is pathetic, and a waste of our tax dollars. |

Brenda was working in Mexico for ten years without a Visa. During that time she didn't pay taxes to either Canada or Mexico. She accepted a huge severance pay from her employer, a lot more than a chef generally receives, then she re-invested that money back with her employer. This is quite unusual behaviour. When the employer escaped from Mexico,(he's now in jail in the US)Brenda was arrested.
I am not unsympathetic to her plight -- 2 years in a Mexican prison must be like purgatory -- but we do make certain decisions in our lives, and then must deal with the consequences. It's all about individual responsibility. Brenda would have been the first one to complain if Canadian authorities had tried to interfere with her right to live and work where she chose. But now that her choices have proved to be bad ones, she has done nothing but scream and demand that Canada come to her rescue. |

What was the source for your information? |

I have to agree with Midnight Muse. If indeed she was working without a visa and took so much money and re-invested it, I have to believe that she is not as naieve as she makes her self out to be. I think she is simply wanting to get out of a bad situation that she put herself into and it was all good until she got caught no doubt. although the Mexican government has corruption (and ours doesn't?) but they can't ALWAYS be wrong. I think they are tired of her being there anyway ! I hope the Mexican's don't think all Canadians are whiners.

The Mexican prosecution themselves have admitted to having no direct evidence linking Brenda Martin to the money scam. A law system in which you're guilty until you prove your innocence and where circumstantial evidence rules. Sounds kinda third world to me. This combined with the stonewalling every time another Canadian gets murdered down there I'd say is plenty of reason for for sensible Canadian tourists to stay away. Mexico is an outlaw country with a totally corrupt government. Always has been.

"A law system in which you're guilty until you prove your innocence and where circumstantial evidence rules. Sounds kinda third world to me."
It's the Napoleonic Code, which originated in France. |
|
napoleaons empire was definitely NOT third world.. the napoleonic code is not OUR cup of tea ... admitting that i havn't thought too much about it..and havn't heard arguments pro or con... would it be hard to prove yourself innocent of a crime you didn't commit? evidence would be presented of your guilt and evidence would be produced of your innocence, just like our system... are there more innocent people in jail under the napoleonic code system? at the time it was enlightened and progressive ... |

Thanks for the info. I have been trying to follow this story. I stopped due to the lack of information that was available. There are a number of posters that think they know what is up, and just keep regurgitating the same nauseating drivel. Once again, thanks for the reply! |

When you are caught with the goods, you are guilty and should therefore proceed with proving your innocence. Not the other way around. In Canada we have been ruled by a weak liberal government that coddles criminals.
My daughters truck was stolen by crack heads, they were caught red handed, cops said they cannot do much. Why? too lazy, too stupid, what? Oh yeah, they are innocent until proven guilty. But the low life bastards were caught red handed. I like the way other countries do it like Mexico, you do the crime you are guilty until proven innocent. That is the right way. Our way is weak. We let the criminal rule here in Canada. I have been watching this story on the news and from a couple of friends from Mexico. They don't want her there. She should also be charged with working without a visa the bitch is taking jobs from people that need it. I knew a long time ago that she re-invested her money with this guy, and if she knew nothing (as I said in previous post about this skank) about his scam then why would she invest? Mexico has a good system, at least their criminals are not out freely walking the streets. And with their system at least people think twice before committing crimes in Mexico. Just idiot Canadians who think they can get away with anything even when out of country. She should be doing the time in Mexico, it is where she perpetrated the crime, but they do not want to house and feed her, so we have to. Why? When this story first came out and they gave the details, I knew from the start that she was guilty, it is in the details of the story. She is a bitch that uses the system for her own gain. |

Cana, all scams sound good until you are caught.
I said a long time ago she knew what was going on, why else would she invest. And why would the guy hire someone he knew, and so cheaply? Alterior motive for sure. (most)Canadians.... always the suckers for a sob story. Most fell for this bitches lies hook line and sinker. |
|
Judging by your reply...this is an admission of nauseating drivel. |
|
|
Judging by your reply drivel is all you know. Have you tried posting on topic on any thread?
As I have said before the truth must hurt. You are pathetic. Is that the best you can do? jajajaja! |

I read in the paper today that Martin is cleared by Mexico, and Canada has to complete our side of paperwork.
Also the judges sentence is in Canada's hand now...so it will be interesting to see what the report shows. The newspaper made it sound like, the prosecution didn't have direct evidence on Martin, but the onus is on her to disprove her guilt, or that pretrial fine! Mexico is having a go at US military also, some soldier was picked up, and charged with weapons running, this should be interesting. See how baby bush handles this; with all the illegals crossing the border, the US population wants blood, now Mexico is arresting their soldiers. |

She deserve what she got. If she is innocent, why the heck did she not get out of there as soon as she could smell trouble, so to speak. Why was she even in Mexico? I can see going there to visit but from what I understand she has been there for 8 years. What's with that? Why is she now crying for help from the Canadian Government. She left Canada to live somewhere else. As far as I am concerned if a Canadian move to another country and takes up residence there, they should not be able to get help from us. We are staying here and trying to make this country a better place. We don't run away to some other country...
I think she got what she deserved. If she comes back here, she'll probably sue the government for allowing this to happen. God know she is going to win and the tax payers will be stuck with the bill. Mexico should keep her until she has finished serving her time. I wish our politicians had balls and guts and courage to stand up to that none sense |
|
|
I have no idea if she deserved what she got.
What I am sure of is 2+ years before a person know what the charge against them is garbage, especially when all the main players were released. Optics are everything in tourism, and politics, if Mexico starts driving away the Canadian, and US tourist then not only will it affect them in the resort industry it will also start affecting them in trade relations with both Countries too. |
