It's hard to believe how tough and enduring our ancestors were in the lonely, demanding Southwest in those early days. I couldn't respect the Griegos more.

In today’s society they would be called ‘terrorist’ because they came to the new world and meticulously slaughtered and displace Indians into reservations and took over their land! They were brainwashed by force into Catholicism 'not taught'! They had no rights and if they stood their ground they were hung in the plaza. Indians were treated less than animals and persecuted for their beliefs; families were separated and never united again. Most Indians were placed into forced labor; they had no voice at all, their dignity was taken away from them. One of the worse atrocities ever took place was in the Acoma Pueblo! Now is this something to celebrate and be proud of?
Those commenting on this story and saying how great their[Ancestors]the Spaniards were will never understand what they did to the Indians because they weren’t on the receiving end of this catastrophe ordeal!

M and M you are right about the Spaniards mistreating the Indians and forcing their Religion on them. But the Whts also came here with Guns and Slaughtered the Indians and took their Land sure they paid them 10 million dollars to make it look like they bought the over half a Million Square miles of Land which was over half of Mexico when they forced Mexico to sign the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848. AT LEAST the Spanish did make Friends and Married the Native Americans and and Introduced almost everything imaginable to the Americas including Horses and Livestock and Plants and Vegetables and tools and brought Mining, Irrigation, Ranching and Farming Ideas to the Americas. The Only thing the Other Whts brought were Guns and exterminated over half of the Indian Population and took their Land. Its only been in the Last 100 years that the other Whts have Contributed any progress to the Americas. The Other Whts taught the Indians how to Scalp. el pintada kid

"They were brainwashed by force into Catholicism 'not taught'"!MichaelMichael

Indians were not "forced" to be Catholic by the Catholic Church. If the Native Americans didn't want to be Catholic they killed the "black robes". There are many missionaries who were martyred trying to bring the Faith to Indiands who wouldn't accept it.
Are you Indian, to take such offense at the Catholic Church's attempts to spread the Faith? I am part Native American, and I am not offended by the Catholic Church. And never have I ever heard that they forced my people to be Catholic.

History isn't the way some on here have portrayed it.

As for the "other whts" someone mentioned, you should read more history. Things were a lot more complicated than you may be aware of or capable of understanding. Read up on the First Nations.

Puke, why don't you try to contact Lucy C. Vigil Ph.D. at the National Hispanic Cultural Center in Albuquerque. If I were you, BTW, I would be worried about losing my job. California's unemployment rate is at 7.7%. Maybe, your horse riding patrona will let you live in her stable.
I can tell you that the barn is extremely nice, probably nicer than your house as the barn has indoor plumbing and electricity.

Nobody is pearly white even dead. You could be pink If you are alive or you could be shades of tan. Wikipedia says that "White" is mostly referred to Europeans. The southern Spanish are sometimes mixed with moors.
Pesty, you need better education.
