If I was going to choose a Beatles album, I definitely would not choose a greatest hits compilation. First of all, the Beatles were very serious about giving the fans their moneys worth when it came to putting their albums together. It is important to note that the British albums no Parlophone came out as the Beatles intended, and the American albums on Capitol did not.

Each British studio album had to have 14 songs, and they did not put their hit singles on albums! They felt that if you had already bought the single, you shouldn't have to buy it again on the album as a filler track. There were exceptions to the 14 song format in the case of movie soundtracks, Extended Plays, and the like. The American Capitol albums were usually stretched into 2 albums for every British release by adding in all the singles, and instrumental cuts from the movie soundtracks which the Beatles didn't even play on.

You can see this yourself by going to this link and comparing the American and British records (top left corner for UK/US) then clicking each album title for the track list.

So, if I'm going to choose a Beatles album for the greatest Rock and Roll record, I'll choose the British version of 1966's Revolver. Great, great album.

Machine head by Deep Purple. Unfortunately the most underrated band ever. Between 1970 and 1972, there was no band in the world who could come close to Purple, awesome!!!!!!!, just awesome
