How to be a great rapper

Full story: Newsday 663
Great rappers make it look easy. They just talk, right? Of course, anyone who's seen not-so-great rappers -- or tried unsuccessfully to rap for themselves -- knows that's not true. Read more

Yo man, you gotta go to concerts and just observe and watch. Like check out Osheaga or Kanrocksas where eminem is going to be and learn something from that man.

You're : a) not a lover of art, and or b) someone who's clearly never heard hip-hop at its finest. At it's worst, hip-hop is boring and offensive. At its best, it is a moving, thought provoking, truly innovative and technical art form. I urge you to attempt to rhyme 16 meaningful bars... let me know how challening it is. Then listen to some of the 'greats' delivering 4 or 5 minutes worth of rhymes. I'm willing to bet you'd end up reconsidering your stance. Something must also be said about the fact that many modern hip hop producers ( chiefly, KANYE WEST) have taken hip hop production to new, symphony like heights. string and horn sections, gorgeous piano and guitar riffs, flesh penetrating basslines- they can all be found on some of today's best hip-hop tracks.

good luck.

Thank you for not making any stupid mistakes, like spelling Eminem with a 3.

First off, you must know how it all began. You can't get to step Z without first knowing and passing step A. I'm a lyricist myself,
and I started off just listening and figuring out what the artists where talking about. Then I looked up the history of hip hop, why and how it began. Then began writing poems of just random feelings. Everyone has their own way of learning and progressing, I mean to each his own. If you're going to rap, make sure your lyrical content is personal to you and your experiences. Hope I helped.....btw...check out my crews a few friends of mine:

The rap was to OTIS - Jay Z & Kanye West best.

I'm a single father who makes the best of their time with their kids. We put a rap together and made a video to go with it.

My son is 10 and my daughter is 8. I'm wanting to encourage their creative side and support their love for music. Please consider sharing our video.

"Is Who We Are" by Three Is Enough is how you can find the video if the link doesn't work.

Die early and unexpectedly, preferably in a shooting over something stupid like bling or cred. I wish more aspiring and established rappers would.

Jay Z shows his support of the communist sentiment by supporting and selling Occupy Wallstreet. This movement is NOT about justice. ITs about destroying the free markets and pushing a communist marxist agenda. Anyone who follows the money that is supporting this knows the real agenda
JZ is part of the ruling class. He has enough money to stay on top. Will you?

I would suggest you get into communication. Practice communicating with the people you know and watch how your communicative methods affect others. Also write a lot of poetry. I don't have the greatest appreciation for rap these days because it seems to have veered from what was once a more poetic forum of expression to what seems to be a way to create an impression with a focus on rhyming. I think most rappers try too hard. Take it easy.
