I think its reasonable to think that he is way overrated as I think his fans overrate him.Best rapper of all time?No but 20-10 type rapper.
There are really more overrated things I would say.Maybe the beatles. Not hating on the beatles but magazines like Rolling Stone rank all there albums in the top 100 and say there far and away the best band witch is arguable. In life he was considered more good than legendary but in death he is way overrated by some.So many rappers could have died at the peak of there career and people would do this to them nas say he dies after it was written, eminem say he dies after the Marshall Mathers LP,and Ice Cube dies after The Predator.Im sure they would have fans like 2pac does.He is more a victim of fans overrating him in my eyes than himself that is what hurts him the most. The problem is people dont listen to enough real hip-hop to give a solid ranking of him.I couldnt say he was actually better than Krs-1,nas,rakim,chuck d,ice cube, even jay-z.

this is all very interesting to read and the definition of the "best" to different people.I am an old school hip hop head, that remembers when Nas came out, when Rakim was first considered the freestyle king, busta rhymes was a part of the L.o.n.s, Lords of the underground etc. There is a laundry list of great artist, what makes Tupac different was his ability to draw an overwhelming audience of all genres, not just hip hop listeners. That is something that no one had done previous to him on a grand scale, and is now the blue print that most artist use to try and be successful. "crossing over" without losing the essence of who you are as an artist, the ability to appeal to not just the black audience but a large piece of all audiences. I give respect to all the rappers and MC's for what they bring to the hip hop table.

That almost makes me sick when people say Pac is overrated. If anything he was underrated as hard as that is to do when it comes to Pac. But wow the sh*t this dude was doing was far more than any other rapper ever did. He was world f*cking wide by the age of 25! Look at these chump ass rappers that been doin this sh*t for 60 yrs and still can't be compared to Pac. F*ck any magazine and anybody that aint down with Pac, somethings wrong with your bitch ass. Bitch ASS!!

Who is doing the ‘rating’? Any body with a shallow outlook of the world and who has NO CLUE what it means to be black and living in America – might say that. But, what Pac does is, awaken the dormant spirit of a human, question the paradoxical existence or race, class and alike.

Pac is the poet that was never here, because we only saw a glimpse of him. Pac was the leader that was never reined because death has preceded his young ambition.

Pac can only be rated with those people who GETS him../.. no offence for those uninformed writers…. All I can say is read pac’s lyrics, listen to his music, educate yourself….
Pac is the greatest!...
Rapper at that
ever existed
young age, he departed
he ain’t overrated
he helped liberated
from prison cells and choke holes
from mundane life and slave roles
to escalated awareness
to a higher degree of abundance
pac was/is the guidance
of the “young at heart” generation
to the ‘real’ unity of the nation

ALWAYS!

Just about all hip-hop is purchased by white people. So that's not a good reason. As far as sells go Biggy outsold him while they were both alive. When 2pac died and only when 2pac died did he become a icon.If you want to bring up All Eyez On Me out selling Ready To Die don't even bother. It only outsold it because All Eyez On Me is a double album and they count double albums as two cds which is why it sold so much.
I consider 2pac to be one of the greatest mcs of all time but get your shit' straight.Sells also don't matter anyway. The majority of sells come from commerical hits and good marketing and I don't think that has anything to do with the quality of the artist.

Ok, Pac was sik, lets say that, but the G.O.A.T ? really now? Cannibus could easily out rap him in any freestyle battle, Eminem makes songs just as good as his, look at like toy soldiers, Till i colapse, Stan. Ice cube has produced songs as well as write at least most of the rappers bars that hes collaborated with (e.g. eazy e, westside connection, NWA). Im not hating on anyone, im just sayin, just think about it before yu say tupac is the best of all time.

Here are some fact:
Nas Album (It Was Written) 2× Platinum year 1996.
Tupac Album (all eyes on me) 9× Multi-Platinum year 1996.
Tupac released 5 album between the year 1991 to 1996 so thats a album a years, while nas only released 2. so this clearly states that tupac was the one who was working more the one who spent every day of every night in the recording studio making new ryhmes.
now everyone must understand that tupac died at the age of 21, so just imagine if the man was still alive? dead or alive he has still sold over 75 million albums (30 million while he was still alive) compared to nas's 12 million albums?
so whos the sickest mc? the facts prove tupac is. and people say tupac was to comercial? not before he died he wernt, and you must understand you only become comercial if your really good, tupac touched every1 with his music. you cant knock tupac he is truely amasing and facts prove he is the BEST

Did they do any research before posting him as the most overrated person in the music industry? He put out raps first double album, ever, and it was recorded in less than 2 weeks - and who the hell does Lil Wayne think he is - I'd love to see him try make a double CD which sold over 9 million copies just in the USA in 2 years. Oh yeah, and debut #1 on the album and R&B/Rap charts. Beat that when your market is people living on the welfare.
With regards to what was said about him becoming more famous after his death - of course, this is seen a number of times in many industries. His legacy lives on because of all the hard work and countless hours of recording he did before his death. And his mother still has over 150 of unreleased material thats still waiting to be sold! But if he was still alive today he would be just as big and would have sold just as many albums, if not more!!
