This is a path to way too huge of a corporate advantage for Comcast, and it's the American people who will pay dearly....Comcast's purchase of NBC-Universal, should be the end of their struggle for a monopoly.....Remember how ATT screwed us for years, when they held the phone monopoly?.....This would be worse, because Comcast dominates in cable-phone-internet already.....

Now they will be too big to fail!

They will tell us how they can 'leverage efficiencies' and 'expand technology advancement'.

While raising rates and imposing caps on bandwidth to thwart the advancement of streaming movie/TV services.

From what I've heard, I hate Comcast more, and we have a TWC here, so that is bad news.

hate to say this.... but we have to wait , agreement to merge doesn't have approval yet .... maybe some hope

Competition law is known as antitrust law in the United States and anti-monopoly law in China and Russia. In previous years it has been known as trade practices law in the United Kingdom and Australia.

damn sure is a danger

Honestly I hate TWC. But if they do happen to merge.. it could be better in a sense or to a certain extent. However I truly think the benefits wont out way the issues ..for the costumers that is.
For them it would just make their pockets fuller.

And they might approve, since Comcast and TWC have never really been competitors. AFAIK, they don't exist in the same geographic locations. But I am afraid that TWC might get even worse after this.

I remember when ATT ran everything as a utility. Prices were lower, but innovation was slower.

I loved how on the pbs news hour some expert said that this merger raises no anti competitive concerns because there already is no competition in a given market between cable providers....

So you can't invoke anti trust issues because competition (between cable companies) is already effectively extinct.

A real Catch-Channel-22 situation.

I live in an affluent area of S.FL.....we have only the choice of Comcast or the dish.....Comcast owning all the NBC channels is beyond scary....Wonder how much of Congress they will own, before everyone get's it?.....and by then, it may be too late.....

Yes, you've noted that Comcast is a major player in internet AND the ownership of Universal/NBC.

Layer that on the recent decision of the Wash. D.C. district federal Court of Appeals against net neutrality concept, this ain't soundin' good.

While the merger still has to be approved, and the court decision might go to SCOTUS (which may decline to take, or decide to affirm the Appeals Court's decision), consumer/citizen awareness should be highly piqued about all this.

There is a term called, "neighborhood" in cable television....the way that all the news channels, are arranged in close proximity on your cable program.....The SCOTUS has already ruled againest Comcast, for segregating Bloomberg News....far away from the rest.....

DirectTV was so cool in the beginning. They started showing LA and San Francisco plus another 'local' for everyone but I forget where it was. THEN they went 'official' with local TV, only showing the OTA stations for where you live. I liked the ability to see what was on the others.

While I agree, the substance of any anti trust claims to make against this merger must apparently hinge on whether it will unduly limit competition between _cable_ companies.

The claimed authority on the "News Hour" said this merger will not reduce competition between cable companies because there is no competition between cable companies in a given locale.

Whether you can get tv from hulu or a phone company or a dish or wherever else apparently does not figure into this anti trust requirement.

That was the joke: This merger will not affect competition _between cable companies_ because there is none.

Of course it will be limiting of competition between media corporations in general and bad for consumers, but that's not what an anti trust determination would be based on, apparently.
