Both bands have hours of compositions that rise above the rattle of lesser ensembles. My favorite Pink Floyd works are from their experimental days of Ummagumma and Meddle. Five stand out, namely Astronomy Domine, Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun, Grandchester Medows and Echoes. The Best Led Zeppelin tunes, great though they were, are not properly classified as prog rock, but rather proto-metal. Most of Led Zeppelin 1,2 and 4 are pure gold. But to me it's headbanging material, and not the "otherworldly" sound that sets Floyd apart as the band that ousted the Beatles as the Greatest Band of All Time. If the question were who were the greatest ROCK and ROLL band ever, I'd pick from Led Zep, the Stones and the Who, favoring the Stones. But no band created aural intoxication like Pink Floyd.

they're two uncomparable bands, and it's wrong to say one is better than the other since they're so completely different. It's the same reason i dont claim to have a favorite band being as there are over 180 bands on my ipod at any given time. I like different bands for different reasons. Alot of the time I would prefer to listen to Zeppelin instead of pink floyd and sometimes it's the other way around.

for Floyd i love Seamus cause it drives my dog crazy, and the entire Dark Side album is probably my favorite right now. For Zeppelin I'd have to say Stairway To Heaven is really overrated. I like the picking at the start of Babe I'm Gonna Leave you way more. I love Achille's Last Stand, Kashmir, Immigrant Song, Black Dog, Good Times Bad Times and What Is And What Never Should Be the best. it's hard to give an order to those.

hmmm...both bands have many many great songs. Its hard to narrow down to just a few. For Pink Floyd, my favorite songs are probably Time, Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2, and Wish You Were Here. My favorite Gilmour guitar solo is Comfortably Numb (undoubtedly the greatest guitar solo ever).
My favorite Led Zep Songs are Achilles last stand, The Rover (I really like the guitar in that song), and Good Times Bad Times of course there are many more. My favorite Jimmy Page guitar solo is probably Stairway to Heaven and I would rank it as the #2 guitar solo of all time after Gilmour's solo in Comfortably Numb.

For LZ -- Rover (from Phys. Graf.)
It hard to pick from the Zep at this late date what with radio saturation taking a toll. But that one always sounds fresh.
Pink Floyd
