I think Jay has paid his dues to everyone. The highly published problems he has had in the past have punished him enough. Why doesn't the original group and Jay Traynor get their own music and stop haunting him. Do they want his blood next? At his age, just let him revel in his glory and pay his taxes.
Don't composer's copyright their songs? Jay Black wrote Cara Mia. I hear that the "new" Jay and the Americans will have their own version of this song and they say it is better than Jay Black's. Sorry, it ain't goin to happen, never. Too bad the new group even has the legal right to perform that song.

Nick obviously you know nothing! David Blatt aka Jay Black never wrote any of his hit songs or any other song for that matter. The new Jay and the Americans which btw have 3 original Americans with the new Jay hired Jay #2 (David Blatt) who was working at a Thom McCann shoe store selling shoes. As well they hired the first Jay Traynor. I think they know what they are doing. And after seeing them perform in Iowa at the Famous Surf Ballroom (home to the last performances of Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Richie Valens)I know now they know what they are doing, they sounded great, put on one fantastic show, and all looked great. I saw Jay Black recently (he looks like an old liver spotted fat ugly misearble gambler) his show was half vulgar anti semitic comedy and put downs of the new group and the other half was singing but not the way he used to. Many songs were off key!! Funny but the new group only says nice things about Jay # 1 and David Jay # 2. Jay # 2 David says he is an original he is not, he says the new jay and the americans are impostors they are not. The only impostor is David Jay # 2 who went around performing as Jay Black and the Americans for twenty + years and defrauding the public. You should educate yourself with the history of the band at www.jayandtheamericans.com

It really is very simple:
If you want to see a Jay Black wannebe who spends his time as a cleaning worker, go see the new copy group.
The only authentic voice and the original voice of all the songs always was and still is JAY BLACK.
Always choose to support the originals.
Jason, I am not understanding something here Jay Black wannabe? Cleaning worker, copy group? You must either be friends or a relative with this Jay David Blatt Black. Are you saying that anybody that sings another groups song is not authentic? Well I guess 50 million americans are wrong for watching and voting on An American Idol. Funny they have guest star judges every week that judge their own written songs (Did David write any of his songs? No!)performed by amateurs but are they mad no they are happy and it is a compliment to them. What about all the famous groups that have done other artists songs I guess they are copy bands as well in your mind. Boy you must be one ignorant human being to to think that David Jay # 2 is the only authentic and original voice of those songs. Check the history books maybe you will learn something. Ignorance of history is no excuse!!!

So when Jay Black stated on PBS, that at age 26 he wrote Cara Mia........he was lying to the world?
That seems a strange place and time to tell a lie.
Very easy to get caught with millions watching.

Not interesed in history of the group. The Jay Black version of Cara Mia is the best. I have not heard the new group's version. Is it available on the internet somewhere? I would be glad to take a listen.

Gene Pitney's version was so so, he changed some of the lyrics.

"Cara Mia" is a popular song.It was written by Tulio Trapani and Lee Lange and published in 1954
Go to www.jayandtheamericans.com and you can hear Cara Mia, This Magic Moment and Come a little bit closer. I happen to know David Blatt aka Jay Black and he has beed deceiving and lying to people his whole life. To say on PBS that he wrote Cara Mia just proves what a tangled web he weaves when he practices to decieve. He is a piece of work and I for one will say that David Blatt / Jay Black got exactly what he deserved. What comes around goes around.

Jay Black never claimed to have written Cara Mia. On PBS he only talked about recording the song.

I have the tape of Jay Black's PBS appearance. He clearly says he wrote the song at age 26 and due to the high notes he planned to retire at 40, etc.
There are three Jay's. Each one has their own fan base. Those who don't like Jay Black, should exit this forum and go to the forums of the Jay they prefer and spread their propoganda there. Jay Black and the Americans had a string of hits before they disbanded. I never heard Jay Traynor perform Some Enchanted Evening, Cara Mia or the others. Jay Black's unique voice made those hits. Where is Jay Traynor now? Let's hear his vocal cords. Jay Black is 67 or 68 years old and still puts on a good show. I've never heard any of his comedy, it might suck for all I know. As far as the bankruptcy, the judge made the right decision. Jay Black did not deserve to have his name taken from him. He is free to perform as Jay Black and the Americans and Jay #3 can too. I'd like to hear Jay #3 do some of the hits that Jay Black and the orignal Americans did......if they are on the web somewhere please direct me. I am all ears.

Would anyone know whether the group (Jay Black group) looks for concert locations or does the location go looking for them?
I do not think they have ever been to the Carolinas, from my knowledge. There are some nice theatres in Columbia SC, and Charlotte, NC.
How would a fan like me go about getting someone to invite them to appear around here or get the group to look for a festival or other opportunity to appear near here?
THANKS..

I just found this sight, otherwise I would have written sooner. JAY BLACK is the only JAY! We've seen him two to three times every year and will continue to do so (have tickets for April at Westbury already) We've met him several times and not only is he a great entertainer but he's a great guy as well. We love you.

I would like to post one more comment. I just read all these previous comments and think half of the people writing are all from one group of "New J" group fans and figure the more negative comments they can write the better it will be for the new group. I was at Jay Black's last Westbury concert (and I will only call him that)and he definetely did not bash Jay Traynor as some people said he did. It was the lawyers that were after him to sell his name to pay his debt-not Jay Traynor. Yes they did have a buyer(I guess the ex-Americans) but, Jay was very gracious about it -considering. He has a debt to pay-which I'm sure he'll have to pay-but no one can take away who he is or what he's done. HE was the one that made those songs great & still does.

Funny Michael they were a success before David joined the band. Remember there was a Jay # 1 with a hit record called She Cried.
