i think they were the first big mass appeal band for teenage hysteria since the Beatles. Others have followed (boy bands) but they were the ones that broke the ice for them after the post-Beatles freeze. They are not comparable, musically, to the Beatles but they gave the music industry a taste of that type of hype. They deserve all the recognition they get, imo.
