Rep. Paul Broun Ignores Stats, Claims Public Option for Health Care "Is Gonna Kill People"

In a speech on the House floor Friday afternoon, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) attacked the idea of a public health care plan, saying “this program of ‘government option’ is being touted as being the panacea, the savior of allowing people to have quality health care at an affordable price is gonna kill people.” He used Canada and the United Kingdom as examples against the public option, claiming that those countries “don’t have the appreciation of life as we do in our society.” What is typical of politicians and many Americans who use such arguments, is that they don't do any homework. Oh, and doesn't Broun have, ahem, publicly funded healthcare of his own? Statistically, both Canada and the U.K. have longer lifespans and lower infant mortality rates than ours.

BTW - tell my daughter, who's married to a Canadian, has been living in Canada for more than two years now, both working - how great the canadian health care is. She's stuck to a wheel chair for the past year or so because they won't approve the surgery and treatment she needs.

The reason? The cost to do it is more than what she will contribute in her current career and expected lifespan through taxes.

Tell your daughter to come back to the U.S. say her last name is Sanchez or La Roza and she will get the best medical treatment for free. Taxpayers will foot the bill. California is still open for business I hear.

Sorry about your daughter. But. You don't put forward any logical or reasonable alternatives to the health care crisis facing this nation. And for every example like your daughter there are dozens of similar or worse stories here in the US involving people with no health care coverage at all, including people that have lost coverage due to unemployment, people that have lost coverage due to benefits cuts, people that have lost coverage due to pre-existing conditions or concurrent conditions, etc. Enough with the backbiting and political pissing matches - we need a few more people working ON the problem, instead of pointing finger ABOUT the problem. It's time for some sort of plan that provides basic health care coverage for all US citizens currently with none, that still allows for those that can pay for premium services or that care to select private options to do so. Enough. It's time.

What was the failed policy related to 9-11? The Katrina aftermath was caused by the failure of the pollicies of the Democrat state government and the Democrat city government. The Iraq war was bipartisan and, on balance, saved American lives.

There are dozens of alternative ways to go other than government funded national healthcare

I have presented a couple different paths in various articles on here over the past several months.

The left "Poo poo's" them because it isn't what they want - which is our government taking care of everything.

Why don't YOU offer some possible alternatives than our incomes being taxed to crap to cover a plan that will further destroy our economic base.

Keep your plan if you like it. Augment it with a public option for those who don't have coverage today.

Yeah, and they took us off the gold standard, they put us on Social Security & Medicare, and they gave all those undesirables standing with their Civil Rights Act and Voter Rights Act.
