We enjoyed the performances of the singers and orchestra, who really gave it their all. The second act was great and I particularly liked the baritone who sung Tonio. The orchestra was excellent.
Unfortunately, however, although we had front row first balcony seats, we could really only see the singers from the waist up, and when they were downstage or kneeling, not at all! The production was set up with the orchestra on the main part of the stage and the singers in a small rectangular space in front, with the addition of some steps leading down to a lower platform (where the singers became almost invisible).
It was as if the orchestra was on the stage and the singers in the pit!:(
Someone at Columbus Opera needed to sit in the balconies and loge to see what we were seeing. It shows a lack of respect for the audience not to take care of something like that.
