Even if music influence people, we all still have personal decisions to make that know one else can make on behalf of us. Musicians don't endorse a lifestyle, they express a view and the rest is up to you. I'm not into Slipknot, but I'm a big Nine Inch Nails and Type O Negative fan, who's music have dark, gothic components that has always been no more than listening enjoyment and artistic inspiration. I have clean criminal record, I'm kind, I bullshit myself less than religious people and that's it. If you have a weak personality and make a bad decision, even if you disrespect someone else's life in the slightest way, you are responsible. I've never heard of Slipknot fans going home after a show, hitting their town like Zombies from Night of the Living Dead. Can I throw something back at the bored religious people, who should do something useful with their "goodness", rather than having deedless discussions like politicians on who to blame. The Bible states that nothing that comes from the outside can influence us to do evil, it is our own internal desires that make us evil. Art is simbolic, philosophical and usually ambiguious. If you take it literally, you must be very intelectually impaired, identity screwed and desperate for attention. I hope we all wake up before we die. It starts with being honest with yourself. To those who become Satanists, you're joining exactly the same thing that you ran away from. A group of human beings telling you what to do with your life. Open your eyes and your mind, and you'll find God in all the beautiful things in life. Good luck.

I second that because I believe in taking responsibility for own actions.

yeah well i just went on to their site and listened to some of their 'shite'. I tell you this, i wouldn't want my kids listening to that. they sound really angry...and messed up. it sounds awful. and if anyone wants to argue that what you hear doesn't have an effect on you, lets go for it. Cos thats a bunch of b.s. There is so much anger and rebellion on that website, I can understand why this boy went to do what he did. The imagery is nothing short of what can only be described as 'evil' and a definite 'no-go' area for a young developing mind. especially in a society/world where there is enough to deal with already.

Slipknot is not art...its sick. i guess real wisdom is only evident when you can make that differentiation. The bible says its not what on the outside that defiles, but what comes out from the inside. i think you may have your intepretation of that a little off. If you consider then, the stuff that comes out from the mouths of these band members, you will know that they are exactly what this group is talking about. and the outside is always an expression of whats on the inside. GOd wont judge you for your weird hairstyle or your tatoos and earings and sharp teeth. But the source of that expression will be judged. out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. these guys speak evil, hate and rebellion and it comes out of their heart (not the organ)but their souls. And kids are being listening to the rot of their (slipknot's)souls and stand just as good a chance of not being affected as a bag of good apples in the midst of a single rotten one.

So keep away from it then. Keep your children away from it then. Don't go blame satan for your own weakness. We should all teach our children to differentiate between what is good for them and what is not. Otherwise we can forgive all the criminals for 'circumstances' that forced them to kill, rape, steal, etc....The sword (not the one used in the act) has to cut both ways.

With all respect, I get your point of argument. But, let God be the judge. In the mean time, we must all do our best to keep our kids off bad influences.

Where are the parents when kids are listening to this things?

yes i do and i will. in that category is hard core rap as well-i will keep my kids away. i am not blaming satan for anything. I blame parents that allow their kids access to such stuff but i guess if the parents are somewhat like you, how would they know that its not good for their kids. its called art, right? please!!

All responsibility goes to the perpetrator of the crime- i believe that and i'm all for it. for the simple fact that there are many people who do and have made the right choice despite their upbringing or circumstances, so no-one has an excuse.

Thats exactly what i am saying. but if parents dont the music to have subliminal messages (and it has. i have seen the website), how are they to know its bad>? but every parent should watch their kids and unfortunately these days most of us are too busy working and supporting them to worry about whats going on on the inside.

yeah, let God judge. he already has. that group is sick. i was quite shocked at what i just heard and read.

children should be kept away from a lot of things. i read on on an article that another heavy metal group stated that their (slipknot and the likes) lyrics are violent, angry and full of hate and that if you are already down, it would have a negative effect on you. And also that their music while it is all of these things, its not Satanic

i am not interested in ones definition of satanic, but who cares if its satanic, the guy just admitted that the music is angry, violent and hateful. That alone is 3 flippin' good reasons to keep your children away from the music. i mean, most parents would not expose our kids to that in our homes. we grow up our kids in a way where we dont impose violence on them, or speak angrily or hatefully to them. So why are we okay to allow Slipknot or whoever else to do that.

Hear no evil!

Why do kids kill other kids? Because they listening to music like slipknot, manson, slayer or whatever? No. Because they are not accepted as those person they want to be.
Music can help you. You can give all your aggression into music.
Why is everbody looking for a guilty source? Just to point the finger at them! Don't blame the music, blame the society. Because the society defines you. and if the society kicks you out (bulling, mobbing, hating) you try to kick back.

But this is a topic that will never end, cause there are to many factors to look at.

I give my Blessings to the victims, and families.

And sorry for my english, i'm not good at it;)

LOL
Slipknots Ok,but I have to say Cradle of Filth is better

GTA is good,GT2 is unfortunately a role model for the Thug type.

Unfortunately no matter how much we bull ourselves society as a whole is just plain violent and video games, rock music and nog rap provide us with a safe escape for all our violent urges.

Witnesses claim the attacker was high on drugs and wearing a face mask similar to that sported by Joey Jordison, Slipknot’s drummer.

Pierre Eksteen, who is in charge of the school’s support network, said:‘We know the wrong kind of music and drugs have bad effects. Young people need to be informed of the effects of bad satanic music.’

The U.S. band, who released their first album Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. in 1995, are known for their macabre stage displays, in which they usually wear jumpsuits and homemade masks.

Its amazing no one on here has commented on the Kids recreational use of Drugs, instead slipknot gets an undeserved thrashing.

And to that list of music why don't you just ad all punk, alternative, hip-hop, R&B, country, and any other form of music that serves as expression...wait, I guess that would be all of it. And why not take the internet away from them too, and television time as well. Sheltering children so much is actually negative. Well, unless you want to form them to what you like, even if they don't develop their true individuality. Honestly, I can't but feel very sorry for your kids.

Personally, I'm an active member of my community, A+ student, Roman Catholic, and a big fan of Slipknot and even harder metal. My parents have heard my music before and let me listen to it even if they don't like all the shouting and metal drums. They have told me that it doesn't matter what I listen to or what I do as long as I keep being a good person, which I'm pretty sure is encouraged by christianity: to do good deeds and help the needy. People see me, wearing black clothing and fingernail polish, weird haircut and jewelery, and still are able to approach me with confidence. My friends and I, all metal fans, like to help out all the time, even if we do stand out a little we go to all the community services we can. All of this judging someone just based on what they listen to is wrong.

If you read the article, it is completely biased and lacking of information. They didn't even mention if the kid had ever listened to the band. Besides, they mentioned that the kid was on drugs, it is more reasonable to blame the murder on drugs. Drugs affect the mind's abitly to comprehend things and carry out good decisions. Music is a form of art, yes even Slipknot, in which an individual finds comfort. It is more reasonable to blame the act on drugs. Because, let's face it, if the kid had been wearing a mask of the Pope and listened to christian rock, the blame would have been on the drugs and not the musical influences, or at least, that is my personal opinion.

Hey, Im pretty sure this chap has a chemical imbalance. I know many people who have taken drugs, listen to metal, including slipnot (my uniuformed sister called it sluksnot- haha), and they hanen'y killed anybody. The mind boggles, blaming your actions on a mythalogical creature.. sounds like a case of the crazies to me...

Parents should not allow their children to listen to this, infact no one should listen to this. First of all it is garbage and it is just a lot of noise. Thats all.
Children do suffer from rejection, broken homes, drug abuse, alchol abuse, sexual abuse etc, this all leads them to do crazy things. They then listen to these types of music, play evil games, watch evil movies. I however blame the parents.
The boy in SA who killed because satan told him to. Some intersting things, his room was painted black, heavy metal music only, a pc, etc. it is also said that in the last few weeks leading up to the incident that 3 dogs and a cat died in his house. Was he a satanist?
For those who still have not repented their sins, you still have a chance, being a christian will be a new amazing experience for you. For those who continue to be influenced by the flesh, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess.
to all christians out there, remeber that it is our responsibilities pray for all those lost out there.
If there are any of you out there who want to repent, google any christian site and find the sinners prayer.

well if you look at the adults on this thread alone that love slipknot and insist that their type of music is art, what chance do kids stand.

the music is sick. i went online to listen to it because i wanted to know what the hell its all about. and it is hell. it sounds really angry and violent. no parent should allow their kids to listen to that. and yes add R&b , hip hop and rap to the mix. all music has a source. its either good or bad.
