Founded by Danny Mekonnen, a Texas-raised Ethiopian American jazz saxophonist with an ethnomusicology master's degree from Harvard, Debo Band uses the late '60s-early '70s golden age of Ethiopian pop music as a starting point for its brassy, swaggering sound.
