You rappers I think of as children playing stupid macho kids games. You are so lucky to live in America were you are free to play that awful sounding crap you all call music.

If all you idiot rappers love violence so much I suggest you enlist in the army and go fight like real men instead of mouthing off here

It makes me sick

In 50 years from now people will still be listening to the Beatles and puking whenever the here all those vile lyrics from the rap world.

West Side isn't the same as West Coast - Snoop Dogg is from Eastside Long Beach, which is on the West Coast. West Side is also a place on the West Coast.

Ok, here's the thing. The reason rap is so hugely influential, is this; The Beatles,(and most artists in other music-genres), came from middle/upper class backgrounds, which is not inspiring at all, neither is it anything special. As for rap - and none of this Minaj or modern crap, old school rap - the artists have more often than not come from poverty.
See Snoop Dogg, as a prime example. He lived in absolute poverty in the heart of Long Beach, a gang-affiliated, unemployed area. He was involved in gang-crime, black-on-black shootings and drugs, and yet made it through from SHEER TALENT. This is the same for many rappers, including Dre and Warren G...it's not just art, it's their lives.
So you can talk about The Beatles,(who admittedly are commercially successful), but sing about Octopus' under the sea. Or you can talk about gangsta-rap/hip-hop, which was born as a result of societies of black ghettos expressing their views on the desperate ways in which they live/used to live.

I think this question is open to opinion. There will never be a "best," that title doesn't exist. It all boils down to who you personally enjoy listening to, whose lyrics speaks to you. When I see these rappers on a cd, I strongly consider buying it:

1. Kurupt
2. MC Ren
3. RBX
4. Tray Deee
5. AMG
6. King Tee!
7. 40 Thevz

I can't even think of ten off the top of my head, and these are in no particular order. Kurupt and MC Ren and are ill, I love their cd's. RBX has put out some awful music, but he is without a doubt one of the most talented rappers. See his freestyles and his first cd. King Tee and AMG have a unique sound and a smooth flow. I wish Tray Deee never went to prison, his shit was insane. And 40 Thevz only had two cd's and a handful of songs on Coolio's albums, but I still love their music.

I've got nothing against 2Pac and Cube, I just don't listen to their music that much because it never really appealed to me. I know they're talented, but I haven't listened to enough to have an opinion on them. And I don't listen to the new stuff either. Gift of Gab is tight, but I've grown tired of rap music lately. Give my 1990-1999 albums and be done with it. I don't even know what the latest "classic" rap album is, but it can't be on par with Reasonable Doubt, Picture This, Doggystyle and others from the 90's.

I was hoping this thread would have more substance, because I'm always looking for 90's rap I haven't heard, and the West was king for half that decade. But it's just people arguing over why Cube is the shit and how the UK sucks. Weak.

Kurupt and 2Pac not from the West Coast? Just because they were born somewhere else? What about that quote from 2Pac at the end of "School" on Masta Killa's No Said Date?

"I love Wu-Tang... I feel like they represent the East Coast like WE REPRESENT THE WEST COAST.

So I guess 2Pac considered himself a West Coast rapper even though he's from Baltimore...
