I was talking to a friend about the best west coast rappers & we both kind of agreed that arent tons of great ones. Was curious what peoples lists would look like when naming 10. And no Tupac is NOT a west coast rapper. He lived on the east coast until he was 17. My top 10 in order would have to be:

10. Mack-10
9. The Game
8. Too Short
7. Eazy-E
6. B-Real
5. Xzibit
4. Snoop Doggy Dogg
3. MC Ren
2. Ice-T
1. Ice Cube

I am sure I will hear some backlash for having Ice-T so high, but if you havent heard his first 4 albums then dont criticize. He also has arguably the best hip-hop theme song of all-time (Colors)

How did Mack-10 sneak in there? If you're gonna put a Westside Connection member you should go with WC.Mack-10 was always getting murdered on the "Bow Down" album by WC and Ice Cube.
Eazy-E should be dismissed as well on account of not writing his own lyrics.

10.B-Real
9.Ice-T
8.Kurupt
7.Spice-1
6.Snoop Dogg
5.The D.O.C
4.Ras Kass
3.Del the funky homospahian
2.2pac- I know he lived in the grew up on the East coast but so did ice-t and no one points that out. I think he's important enough to west coast hip-hop to be considered one.
1.Ice Cube
As far as your list goes including the game is a joke. He's okay for a mainstream rapper but no.

I like both WC & Mack-10, and I went back & forth as to which one I would put on there as I didnt want too much Westside Connection. As for the Game he is ok, nothing special at all, but thats what i mean by the west coast is pretty thin. D.O.C is good just didnt think he had enough actual discography for consideration. Eazy-E was a very good MC as far as delivery & had a unique voice. The fact that he would have been selling crack if it werent for MC Ren & Ice Cube, he has to be pushed down the list.
The difference between Ice-T & Tupac is Ice-T made every record in & about Los Angeles. Tupac didnt record anything west coast until All Eyez on Me. Spice-1 & Kurupt to me no way are better than MC Ren & Xzibit. I can understand wanting to boot The Game, Mack-10 & Eazy-E, they could not make the list & I would be fine with it. Ice Cube, Snoop, Ice-T, B-Real & MC Ren, I feel have to have a spot on here. Too Short has crazy longevity but i really only listened to him on Born to Mack & Life is...Too $hort. The west has better selection than say the south or the midwest, but wow how it is so obvious that New York is the dominant state in hip-hop

Eazy-E isn't very good. He's a icon and a legend but wasn't skilled. His delivery was basic,he didn't write his own lyrics, and his rhymes were very simple. His voice was pretty unique but that's the extent of it.
Kurupt and Spice 1 rightfully deserve their spots on my list.Kurupt is a killer lyricist, has a insane rhyme scheme,a deep vocabulary, and can flow as good as anyone on the west coast.
The D.O.C's debut is a lot better than "Doggystyle".Doggyst yle is a classic but way overrated.Snoop in his prime was a good lyricst with a effortless flow. But wasn't nearly as good as The D.O.C was before the accident. And kurupt beat snoop(in his prime) in a battle.
WC was already a established underground rapper years before the westside connection thing.A lot of people consider "WC and the maad circle" one of the best west coast rap groups. His stuff with the maad circle is lightyears better than his Westside Connection stuff.
Spice 1 is incredibly good and underrated.Look at how consistent he's stayed. He was a great lyricist back in the day to.His guest apperances are always good to.
Xzibit and MC Ren were close to making the cut.
But Myka Nyne was the one I felt should be on the list the most.I just couldn't put him on their over the others.Although I am second guessing my decison to put B-Real on the list. He's good but DJ Muggs production was the most appealing part of Cypress Hill to me.

We all know Eazy-E didnt write his own lyrics on Eazy Duz It or either NWA album but he was still good to listen to. He is one of those that if you listen to him now it sounds dated. Beating someone in a battle doesnt necessarily mean they are a better MC. Studio rappers arent always good freestyle rappers and vice versa. Chuck D & Tupac are definitely studio rappers. They might not beat a lot of people in a batle, but there is more to rapping than being quick off the top of your head. you might have quick witted lyrics but your flow & voice are whacked. I consider the beats to be about 1/3 of the puzzle in rap. Cypress Hill did have some of the best beats, one of my favorites. B-Real was a good lyricist, his voice was unique but I could take or leave it. Some of my favorite rap albums are those with the illest beats. Like Enter the Wu & It Takes a Nation of Millions, Follow the Leader. Illmatic is a great album but the beats are certainly nothing special & thats why i dont put it in my top 5.

I was second guessing putting B-Real on the list over Mikah 9 who I consider one of the best underground rappers of all time.Just look at his stuff with Freestyle Fellowship especially "To Whom it may concern.Classic stuff.

I think everybody here is forgeting about The Pharcyde, They're from the westcoast too. Does anybody remember their first two critically acclaimed LPs? I'm saying that their the best but I think its worth mentioning them on this forum.

The alkoholiks were also pretty good as well. Too bad they fell of after thier second album like pharcyde. I think the best rapper in the westcoast either has to be 2pac or ice cube but to be honest a lot of 2pacs material doesnt have that westcoast sound unless were talking about all eyes on me.

D.O.C. fell of after his debut. Out of the rest you've mentioned, I would have to say then best is Del the Funky Homosapian. I've never into MC Eiht style. Aceyolone, I haven't listen to enough of his stuff to call him the best I haven't listened to blackilicious. Ice Cube is my favorite westcoast rapper.

I dont see how Ice Cube is not at the top of the list. There is no west coast MC who has the multiple classic albums like he does. Not even to mention Straight Outta Compton. And Ice-T is obviously the most underrated west coast MC, as no one wants to give him any love. His first 4 albums: Rhyme Pays, Power, Iceberg, O.G. are all tight & also Colors. He rapped with emotion & volume. Good lyricist, good voice, good flow. I personally think Ice-T is the 2nd best to come out of the west coast.

cube isn't top of that list cos not everyone dickrides him like you do. he's not that great an mc...whether you like his music or not. that guy went for the insane word salads of hiero & the supreme lyricism of gift of gab for his top two...you're chatting about ice t being "under-rated". i know whos opinion i respect.

oh...& you think ice-t is the "2nd best to come out of the west coast"? then you're a fool.

hey dipshit first of all you wouldn't even know about the west coast rap scene since you live in London so you don't even have a good perspective on rap unless you beat off to Slick Rick each day. Ice Cube was one of the best west coast lyricists and put three consecutive amazing albums out in three years that had some of the best beats and they were also matched with Cube's clever lyricism. Ice T was one of the forefathers for west coast rap so to say that he isn't underrated is a major slap in the face to rap. Come live in America and than tell me about rap, because if you actually think Snoop Dogg, 2Pac, Kurupt, Daz Dillinger were the best to come out of the West you are pretty uneducated.
