Hip hop is bullshit, talentless crap and if its the face of modern black music that our musicians are aspiring to then we need to just give up. Rap requires no skill and only a slight grasp of language. Studies show most rappers have IQs average or below and people who listen to hip hop do too. What is this telling you?

What is this^^^ telling me? That you, Candace, are a stupid b!tch who has no taste in music. Hip hop is better than a lot of genres, and people who listen to eminent and jay-z have proven to have very high SAT scores. Suck on that knowledge.

You need to separate rap from hip-hop. I studied how to sing and perform in a variety of vocal styles. Hip-hop cannot be readily done by everyone. Try to recreate "Lose Yourself" which has a rhyme in every single word of the 1st chorus. Tell me if it is simple and requires only a slight grasp of language.

By the way, successful people do not have high IQs. They have habits that make them successful. I am successful because I do not listen to close-minded opinions such as yours.

Unless you read or study the craft of hip-hop or music, then you have no place to talk.

A man that is closed to open evaluation, excepts no rebuttal. Responding to a man blind and deafened is just to hear yourself speak.

Honestly all 4 of us (referring to the people above) have responded a bit harsh. But rap in general is not a bad genre in fact I thought it was easy until shini graded my first written verse. And I lost the battle. It's not easy it takes quite a bit of skill and a wide wide knowledge of vocab and sentence structure. Did you know that lil Wayne (I don't like him) is actually pretty smart. So this is an artist to someone who is tired of seeing these kids fall to gun bars, drug bars, sex bars, and other pointless bull crap. This is what you are referring to, eminem is one of the most talented writers and freestylers in the world. But I didn't like a lot of his early records.

Sorry but Candace is quite right.
Some of you are claiming that to write rap and/or hip hop requires a good grasp of vocabulary and to that end, good sentence structuring? Sorry but you must be on some kind of highly toxic drug, because the majority of these artists make new words up, I.e street slang ergo NOT real or recognised vocabulary. That is NOT a good indiciation of intelligence
Most sing about guns, drugs or insist that the police are "mutha fu****s" etc etc. The sole reason most of them hate the police/law so much is because they have been arrested x amount of times, why? Because they were BREAKING THE LAW. A little bit annoying that they have an issue with the police for doing their jobs i.e arresting criminals.
Sorry but their poor use of vocabulary, equate to a good grasp of vocabulary, in fact it's not even constructive use of the English language. Worse still, sure, some make use of rhyming conclusion in their music, but again, in the vast majority of cases they stick any word in there as long as it rhymes, despite the fact that 99% of the resulting vocal sentence makes no sense whatsoever.
The attitudes of the majority of rappers and hip hop artists absolutrly stink they have a perpetual chip on their shoulder, as if the world owes them something. Possibly the worst role models for young people in society today. Sure, they may be rich, but unlike scientists, doctors etc, they don't do anytning worthwhile for the world.

sorry, but your quite fu<ked. want me to break ur bullsh!t down for you? no? well ima do it anyway.
1) saying rap has no vocab? you must only hear 2 chainz or lil wayne or rick ross and assume its all the same. HALF of rap these days is sh!t, you hafta search to find the good stuff. case in point: eminem, freestyling from his mind, says this: IM CHECKING THE EXPOSURE OF PHOTOS OF ME EXPOSING, MYSELF LOCKED INSIDE OF A COZY HOTEL POSING, WITH OR WITHOUT CLOTHING, NEXT TO THE DECOMPOSING, BODIES ERODING WHILE IM DOZING OFF OVERDOSING, WINDOWS OPENING SHUTTING, DOORS OPENING CLOSING, I THINK THERES A GHOST, TOO MUCH hyrdrocodone and codeine, i was only supposed to swallow a half, i took the whole thing, im not joking, i think i just snorted my nose ring, i need a drink, im standing over the sink posing, myself self-loathing.....he keeps goin but you get the point. so i just proved you wrong, theres more thought put into that then the last 20 years of pop/top 40 music put together, so shut the fu<k up sayin theres no vocab/thought process you stupid b!tch.
2) oh so your a prude who wont accept slang/lingo/etc? ok well you better not use any yourself. ever used words like boo-boo, hashtag,'dead' as in describing how funny something was, list goes on. theres also slang thats country specific, i see your from the UK, you have your own slang terms in your country. better not like any music that has slang in it!
3) yes, more often then not, rappers 'hate the police' and have been arrested for various things....but not all, or even nowadays, not even half do. plus, do you honestly think its JUST rap artists who do bad sh!t? seriously? fu<kin hank the country star(made him up) probly snorting a foot long line of coke with 3 groupies in his trailer, meanwhile Lil Monstaaa (made that up too) gets a knock and search warrant cuz they 'got a tip'. looks and media coverage arnt everything you piece of sh!t.
4) they dont do anything worthwhile? tell that to people who have been so inspired by music they have stopped being suicidal. fu<k you for being so stupid.
5) again, your talking about the retarded half of rap music, 2 chainz and sh!t. every genre has those artists who pull the genre the opposite way it should be going. at the end of the day its all music, its all beliefs and your personal taste, but what your posting is ignorant hate on a genre that is amazing, can teach people and reach people, and can sweep you off your feet if you let it. too bad your too much of an idiot.

I am an experimental electronic artists. I also have studied jazz. I frankly can't understand why African Americans who contributed to an outstanding American art form worthy of being in concert halls with classical music would ever sink to the depths of hip hop.

As a musician and composer I find hip hop infantile, Rap is not really even music. You want to hear phenomenal music? Listen to Miles Davis or John Coltrane. If they were still with us today even the best hip hop artists would not be worthy of being in the same room with them.

I love classical and jazz. I love all music that is well written and actually holds emotional value. Most of this new stuff, it does not have that. Yet I LOVE Rap? It is because there is more too it. Sure the beats and hooks are not that high and mighty perfection. However, it is sheer expression of soul and using the languages to paint a picture. No matter how it may seem, there is MASSIVE depth behind the art.

Lil Wayne, Gucci Mane, Soulja Boy, Tyler the Creator, and the list goes on.....
Most people never did the good rap music because they don't search hard enough. Most of the good rap music is all underground.

Lol i Actually like tyler the creator, maybe not overall as an artist but hes got a few tracks stuck in my head that i like. Idk i think hes leagues above wayne and chainz, but i also cant take his stuff super seriously cuz...well, a) his music is usually wonky AF haha and b) his whole attitude/persona is a joker, funny guy half the time, kinda awkward/too random other times. Idk i think he needs to settle in a bit more haha hes too 'crazy' for most peoples taste.
