I'll answer why Tupac is so overrated as best i can. Tupac has a HUGE fan base, which in itself causes him to have more fans (most people just follow the crowd), escalating his fan base further, which is fine but this has caused him to become overrated. Many people have taken the fact he has the largest fan base as making him the greatest, which if that's how your going to define the g.o.a.t. is fine with me because in that case you would be right, but don't translate that over to his technical skills. Tupac wasn't deep, all he did was tell people what they wanted to hear, his lyrics were weak across the board, his flow i think is a bit underrated (he had good flow, when he wanted to), his introspective was childish, his stories with exception so a small few were awful, and his albums were usually loaded with filler. Tupac sold hits songs, an image, and a exciting glamorized life style people enjoyed reflecting on. Its a fact Tupac is half in half, overrated technically, but his ability to reach people (and lets face it people are morons, that's why there's going to be a New World Order)is not overrated and by many who dislike him underrated. In my own opinion Tupac is overrated, i don't personally like his music, since i like technical rappers, now as for a rapper that his him beat in ALL fields and is vastly underrated, personality, flow, stories, albums, endurance, charisma, depth, etc. would be Andre 3000, just look at his albums, he reinvents himself.

Oh well, at least by weighing all the factors, 2Pac still remains one of the greatest rappers of all time. What even helps his case even further is that you have rappers today who have more complex rhyme schemes and blessed with more overall technical skill than he ever had, yet their work pales in comparison to what he did in his five short years. If only he had lived longer, he could have possibly elevated his game.

I wouldn't say todays rappers work pales in comparison, perhaps their popularity or total status of their fame does. Depending on who your talking about i'd say the quality of the higher calibre rappers today are far more productive than tupac. Also just because their popular or their work is popular doesn't mean its good, or that their a good technical rapper. Most rappers today are not technical, their generic and vogue. But really this all boils down to opinion and what an individual appreciates and doesn't but an example of a good technical rapper is Lupe Fiasco, granted i don't much care for his music i'd still say he's overall better than tupac, its just Lupe doesn't rap about things most people want to hear, so its not popular or as popular as what Tupac rapped about. As far as the "GAME" that all depends on the fans, if the fans want Lil Wayne, Jay-Z (he's not good anymore), Soldier Boy, etc. then the idustry will suffer. There are many rappers out their with plenty of skill and things to say but they'll never go mainstream because thats not what the majority of the people want, plus if its not known secret societies determines who is and isn't going to be put out.

Yes, biggie was better lyrically, but thats all I will give him. while I agree Tupac is overrated, I still think he is better than B.I.G. Biggie rapped about money way too much & had a very narrow subject matter. If you listen to rap simply for the clever rhymes then Biggie is your man. But if you want to hear someone who has deep thought & an actual message, then tupac is better. Tupac was a great MC, one of the 5 best, but to hear so many people say he is hands down the best ever, is a total bandwagoner. No MC is way better than everyone else. In fact, it is so close that it just comes down as to who prefer.
I can't agree with you more, especially about the part when you said no mc is waaay better than any other mc.

True dat. Now while my favorite rapper of all time is Tupac, I wouldn't get mad or be suprised to see 10 other rappers ahead of him(Biggie,Nas,Eminem,KRS,BigL ,Scarface,Rakim,Kweli,MosDef,e tc). Tupac did lack the lyrical creativity that some rappers have so he wasn't perfect. It really does matter what you look for though

I think y'all need to agree there was some talent there, and whether or not it was fan perception he inspired alot of young players in Rap game, alot of whom came out to be decent Rappers, to me that's an achievement within itself.

pac may not be the best to you,but he damn sure is the best to me. i have always liked him,but didn't like biggie. even when big was alive i didn't like him. just because some1 dies it gonna make me change the way i feel. we all have our opinions in this is mine you don't have to like it. all big rapped about was money, cars, and bitches..just like the whack ass rappers of today. me as a child when biggie was still alive i wasn't feeling him like i was pac, because pac talked about the real things and it actually taught me things as i was growing up. to me having a good flow don't mean shit if you ain't sending out a good message to the youth. pac's flow may not have been better, but pac's words alone killed biggie i'm sorry you can get mad,but fuck your feelings.

do any of you pac fans think that pac can flow better than jay-z?
just talking about flow, nothing else.
obviously he is not even close, but for some reason tupac fans think that if they dont say that tupac was #1 in every last category, then its like they are doing something wrong.
lyrically not anywhere near Nas
Flow wise not anywhere near Jay
Please, tupac fans, ask yourselves this question "why is tupac the only rapper on my top 20 without great flow or lyricism?"
Rate pac in the same way and hold him to the same standards that you rate the other 19 rappers on your top 20, and pac wont even be on the list. the definition of being overrated. Nas n Biggie flow, rhymes, wordplay n lyrics over Jay-z all day anyday
Just listen to BK Finest,Love The Dough with biggie n jay. Black Republican n Success with Nas n Jay

You can say whatever u want, but Pac has done what no other rapper has been able to do. I don't think that he is overrated. Pac was so intellectual and used hip hop to deliver a message about real stuff that was going on in the world. Pac wanted to improve the black community, while so many other rappers continue to destroy it. You can't name any other rapper who has had such a political and intellectual impact on hip hop. Instead of hiding and rapping about glits and glamour, Pac came out and spoke on real issues within our community and I truly admire him. If no the greatest mc, Pac is the mc who has had the greatest impact on the world within and outside of hip hop, and not many rappers are abe to do so. GOAT (R.I.P. Tupac Shakur, you are missed)

Woww most of you guys here are crazy Pac painted pictures that are beyond what most of us could imagine.. ontop of that tupac had the best lyrics, most influential, talked about real shit, and best story teller. Biggie could tell stories but not like pac.. and pac had a flow but not like biggie they were equally tied but if you ask im im going with tupac. they both were talented and all them east coast rappers you named are shit well some arent but most of em are. and the fact your saying that east coast indeed had more rappers your making tupac look good. Tupac is and so far the best rapper. 1)Tupac. 2) Biggie 3)Idk but an old day rapper not today's generation.

I could name a hundred rappers alive today better than Pac at his best. But 99% of them are underground and don't get the recognition they deserve.

Hip-Hop has evolved from rapping over beats, to gangsta rap (BDP did it first), to political, symbolic and just plain creative wordplay. I've never felt Pac's flow and while I'm not the only person alive to have an opinion, I've heard a great number of artists lacing the wax.

Pac sounded like an opinionated child compared to B.I.G. who lyrically dwarfed him. And Biggie actually grew up in bad times, so you can understand his appreciation of wealth. There are and were better rappers than the both of them.

I wish Big L's death had had the same effect on his posthumous career. But if I was wishing, I'd wish L had never died and Wayne, Birdman and some other wack MCs had never touched a microphone.

People are scared to say that Pac is overrated, but he is, he put together a few good songs and 2 good albums the other albums were shit. I believe that tupac is a legend and that he is in the top 10 of the greatest rappers, but he is not the best. There are many other rappers such as Rakim who are more constant and overall better than tupac. Everybody heard Changes, Dear Mama, Hit em up, and they jump to the conclusion that Tupac is the best in History.
