How real was Shakespeare?

Do we really know enough about "him"? |
what is there to know...he wrote plays and directed them...
Many people could have written and directed plays. |
yeah but ot to his standards. he did it with his own style and system of things that no1 else could have done with such style

True. And he wrote enough over his life that its unlikely that he was able to steal ALL of them. NM |

What is the purpose of this thread? If you don't mind my asking. What good would it possibly do to try to convince people that Shakespeare did not write his plays? What possible good could come from it? Its just as ridiculous as those that try to say that the halocaust never happened, and those that say that we never made it to the moon.
Basically its a bunch of people looking for any way that they can shock people. Thats all it is. shock. Work constructively, or don't make us suffer through your perenoia. What is the point in investigating this. Shakespeare has been dead for hundreds of years. As he once wrote: "what is done, is done." (Macbeth) |

I'll grant you that it’s not going to help the world one way or the other but this isn't something that started with this thread. In fact at one point even Queen Elizabeth the first was investigating if Shakespeare was the actual author. This subject is more of a conspiracy theory than anything else. There is overwhelming evidence that he indeed wrote it. As far as why we are talking about it... You have to admit, it’s one of the few true Goth subjects in the entire forum. NM |

oh yes I know the history behind it. I just don't see why people persist. Theres really nothing to be gained. |

Actually , it is a fact that Shakespeare himself owned a theater company. All the plays that went on at the theater house, were copywritten by Shakespeare himself. Anonymous authors everyone of them. Shakespeare himself was , like most people at the time , illiterate, and could not read or write. As you know , most people think they know it all, and any diviant of my account of that body of work, is false. Dig deep , and find out for yourself.

I've heard of this controversy before, but do you have proof/reliable links to back up your claims? |

Proof of this claim is hard to find. What is not hard to find is 'Biographies of Shakespeare' that claim he wrote them all himself. Old books told the true story ,then all of a sudden, since the 80's, proffessors started teaching that Shakespeare wrote them all himself.
Even professors can be incompetent students. It was on the show 'believe it or not'- thats what I mean by 'dig deep..' Its been buried. The internet may be inundated with false Shakespeare Bios. Still , some people know the truth , ask several professors(since most of the answers will vary), maybe check the history channel archives. The truth is out there. |

You must understand the mania surrounding this figure in history: some people think Shakespeare had more than a hand in writing the book of Psalms in the bible. Look at Psalms 46 - 46 letters into it is the word 'Shake' , 46 letters from the end is the word 'Spear'. Shakespeare's 'body of work' is so inspiring, so brilliant ,so beautiful, some people need to deify the man.

....And the painting we have of him is more than likely, not him at all either. Please fact check that claim as well- it disgusts me all the false info on the net.

the Eck Master,(paraclete) of Elizabethan England was the influencer of the works of the Elizabethans- Spenser, Marlow, Shakespeare etc.). The Eck Master shaped Shakespeare's canon.
We're talking through 1564 and upward - you'll find some Shakepeare dated after his death as well. |

Like all scientific hypothesis, academic theories can fall in and out of fashion. |

simple archeology and a study of the customs of the time have proven this beyond the theory stage, but it will take more than a google, or a degree from a lame set of teachers to uncover this blasphemy conspiracy.
